Saying that we’re not being disrespectful to sabonis I think the fact that the kings are a playoff caliber team is because sabonis brings a level of professionalism and a level of consistency yes that allows the team to be a playoff team yes what they do in the playoffs will be dictated by two
Guys that can take the team to different heights and I mean it really you got to find a way to keep him yeah you have to I don’t know like whatever it’s going to take you got to find a way to keep him and you know that’s that’s where the
Kings are gonna have to go into this off season and they’re gonna have to get a little crazy if they but they’ve got to figure out a way I’m really fascinated to see what his Market looks like because there’s no way teams I don’t think teams are looking at him going oh
Hey maybe we could pay him to be our sixth man what he’s done Distributing this year what he’s done for the Kings culture this year in crunch time every big spot like what he’s done dunking the basketball like he could he would be an immediate fan
Favorite and I think there are going to be a lot of teams this offseason looking and going hey that guy could level up our starting lineup immediately it’s possible but I also think like we heard monk talk about it after the game last night just how much Mike has has put
Faith in him how Monty and Wes put faith in him and how it it’s created a place for him to to excel as a basketball player like it that does matter like and the fact that Daren Fox is here it does matter but you also know that he’s not
Going to get paid like Fox there’s there’s no way for the Kings to do that right and the most that they can pay him this year is like 17.4 million and then an additional like you can do like a two-year deal where the next year he would make I don’t know 18.8 or
Something it would be something like and then you could have an opt out and then you could sign him to a long-term deal and whether he’s willing to wait is a question because what you can’t do is like if you pay him using the the early exception early bird exception is a
Minimum of two years and two years without an opt out so the other thing he could do is he could just take a a pay raise from the Kings stay on under like a standard pay raise that the Kings can give him but it would be a much lower
Level contract and then he could once he has his third year with the Kings they could give him a a a deal that uses the bird the full Larry Bird claw which allows him to sign a to any contract uh for his years of service right without
Regards to the salary cap they can circumvent the cap to do it right and so that’s where like you’re stuck if you’re the Kings and and part of this is on Monk and his people and part of it’s on the Kings for only doing a a three-year
Deal I mean a two-year deal initially if if the Kings would have done a three-year deal with a SE with the final year being an option as his mid-level exception they could have gone back in this summer and renegotiated that one year and gone up mhm they can’t do that
They can’t do that now okay so it’s it’s a bummer just the way the contract and like if you’re the Kings you’re being safe like Malik monk hadn’t proven no he had a solid year with the Lakers and had started plenty of games but he hadn’t
Had a year year like he hadn’t had a blowup year Malik monk to me when he came to the Kings was in the category of player like okay nice player but I mean are you winning anything if he’s a substantial role on your team I was very
