“The dynasty was over last year”: Veteran Bay Area Journalist Reveals Why Little Optimism Left for Steph Curry’s Unit

This is a pretty strong take. We might be having a different conversation next week if the dubs pull a couple games, especially if they beat the timberwolves. But for now, dynasty doom claims are starting to come strong, even from the old heads in San Francisco. I don’t know how much dubnation respects this guy (I’m a laker fan with great respect for Steph and dray), but sad if this is really the impending feeling now.

People been saying this and praying for it every year since the 2019 Finals loss. 2022 was a huge humbling slap in the face to the media and haters and it’s made them angrier than ever. They cannot wait for Steph to retire. And the moment he does, every one of them will miss him. You don’t know what you have until you lose it.

Newbie Warrior fans disrespecting a guy from Oakland who’s been covering the team for decades. Ok

2022 was the last dance, and i’m content with that as long as lebron and KD dont win again

It’s not sad. Warriors are incredible. To get 4 titles in this day in the league is insane. They changed the game.

Monte Pool keeping it real. Team is dog shit and dynasty is over.

  6. Status-Beyond-1116

This is aggregating Monte Poole for anyone who doesnt want to click

  7. I don’t hear no bell.

I agree this team as constructed isn’t winning (or realistically contending) for titles. We need a number 2 scoring option.

This offseason is key. After this draft we have all our picks except top 20 protected 2030. We have Kuminga. We can go big game hunting.

I also don’t want to trade kuminga, but if he can get us a top player then you pull the trigger.

we’re not having a different conversation, win or lose against the wolves. sucks to say, but this team is only marginally better than last year’s team. there’s a large enough sample size to prove that. minus steph, our vets have been sadly underwhelming. kerr’s questionable lineups and lack of trust in moody hurt us as well. i like our new pickups, though. hopefully we manage to sign some solid 3 and D guys. and for the love of god, can we get some size? this team is hella small.

This team is awful. Plain and simple. We barely made it out of the first round last year. This year we’ll be lucky to hang on to 10th and then get bounced immediately. The only hope this team has is landing Lebron, Giannis or Embiid. If that happens we have a chance. If not next year will suck even worse. People need to stop getting their hopes up on a bad team. Steph is all this team has. The others are all unproven or old and burnt out.

Dynasty is definitely over, but it was a legendary run that I’ll never forget.

The Dynasty isn’t over if we make a good trade

I’ve been following monte for 3 decades since before the Oakland tribune morphed into the alameda newspaper group… long before he finally showed up on tv. Oakland born. College at San Jose state. He knows Oakland sports. Nothing he said was really wrong unless you expect him to be just a normal fan rather than an actual journalist covering a team. Our team has been 500 for the last two seasons. I’m thankful for that 2022 championship. It was the sweetest one.

Honestly I watch a lot of basketball and the things that the Warriors used to do so well is commonplace now and being done by younger more athletic players. Some teams have many kumingas. And shooting 40% from 3 is just normal now. I understand how great steph is with his volume but okc has 4 players shooting a better % including dort whose claim to fame is defense. Steph has literally changed this damn game

It’s probably over and it might be greedy but I still think of what could have been. KD and Klay could have not been injured in 2019. KD could have stayed or wiseman/Poole could have developed into beasts. Even wiggins right now could be still all star level. But 4 titles is still amazing

  14. Lots of hopeism here man. We would be completely out of the play-in and some people would still think we have a chance. If the stars have to align for a team to have a shot, it’s a bad season 😂.
Even if we make the play ins, we still have to pass the 1st round and then the 2nd and then 3rd and then the championship. We needed to be perfect weeks ago not just here on out.
Dubs is my team but calling people haters for being realistic. Cmon man. Teams peak and fall it is normal. In the last decade we’ve had an amazing run and multiple chips. That 22 chip was a bonus.

Every dynasty ends. Unless they make some insane moves and sign a superstar like Durant next year it’s over. Most enjoyable sports team I’ve ever seen in my lifetime. Thank you dubs

Honestly we need more people to talk shit about the Warriors, they need petty fuel

He’s not wrong anyone who’s watched this team over the last 2 years would know the truth. With Klay and Draymond having declined from all star status (this was an issue even in 2022) the Warriors were depending on Poole to step up and be the second scoring option/ playmaker and for Wiggins to be the 3rd and occasionally 2nd scoring option as well as the best perimeter defender at least for a few years until Kuminga was ready. Obviously none of that ended up working out long term as the Poole regressed and was traded after the Draymond punch, Wiggins regressed and other things also didn’t go in the Warriors favor like Looney falling off a cliff this season and Wiseman being completly useless. Dynasties are hard to maintain and the Warriors needed a ton of things to go right for it to happen, unfortunately it didn’t workout but at least they managed to get one more championship with this group after the disastrous period from the 2019 playoffs- 2020 offseason.

Steph just had his fourth kid I think there is still a lot optimism for his Unit.
