The archetype of a player who brings only bruising paint play and nothing else is practically useless in the NBA today. Reality is Lofton would be a liability on the court on defense and it wouldn’t be a viable strategy in todays game to just feed him the ball down the paint every play, which is all he brings.
Athletic freaks like the Manimal and Montrezl Harrell became obsolete the same way. This type of play would thrive in college and the G-League, but not in the NBA. If teams believed he could contribute, he wouldn’t be bouncing around like this.
