J.B. Bickerstaff | Cavs at Heat Post Game | 3.24.2024

Uncharacteristic loss for you guys what did you see out there um I think you know we’ve asked these guys to do so much um you know we’ve asked them to carry a burden of everybody having to do more because of all the injuries and things that we’re going through um and I

Think it just showed tonight it caught up with us um you know I I think you know mentally physically um you know we’re worn um and you know it’s on us uh all to figure out you know there’s no excuses it doesn’t get any easier um but

I just think tonight was one of those nights where collectively it just sat in on us um and again it was uncharacteristic of this group like we know how hard these guys play how willing they are to compete uh just think we had you know one of those nights obviously another one tomorrow

How do you just I guess kind of wash this one out and regroup maybe use the frustrations to propel you forward yeah I mean I think that’s what you know we’re forced to do in this league and the best thing about it is you have tomorrow um you know I think Priority

One is getting as much rest and treatment as we possibly can working on our recovery um you know try to get some sleep and you know go out and be ready to go tomorrow uh and finish out the rest of the season JB was there something specifically about tonight that that

Troubled you no I mean I’m not going to take away from what our guys have done to get us to this point um you know again this is uncharacteristic it’s not who our team is we just had a night where again like I said uh collectively

It kind of caught up to us but um I will not you know take away uh from what our guys have done and all the things that we’ve asked them to do um you know with d your half your rotation out so um you know again we had a bad night uh we’ll

Figure it out and be better tomorrow what went in the decision to pull all the starters early in the third quarter oh just I mean you know you could feel there wasn’t anything there you know what I mean like they were trying like heck but nothing good was happening for

Them um so you know again just tried to go to the bench and see if we could find a spark from the bench so far two of your most lopsided losses this year have both come against Miami is there something to that what makes Miami such

A difficult matchup uh I mean they’re a good basketball team but again I the you know the circumstances um of where those games have come also matter on the schedule um but take nothing about it like they they play extremely hard they compete their taals off you know every possession uh

And they’re the type of team who if you’re having you know one of those NBA nights uh they make you pay and I think they did that tonight also hi coach uh maybe it’s not the best question for today after this game maybe I don’t have another chance to do it I’d

Like to ask you about Ricky I’m from Spain he decided to to to play again with Barcelona I don’t know if you keep in touch with him and your thoughts about his return uh I’m just happy Rick’s playing basketball and Rick’s happy again um um again I I there are

Very few people that I’ve been around who you know I cherish the relationship more and just want to see a person uh be successful and enjoy the game uh than Ricky I know how much he’s meant to me in my career and how he’s helped me um

You know establish myself as a coach um and I just love to see Ricky happy I’d love to see him smiling and I know he’s finding joy in the game of basketball and more importantly he gets to be home with his family which I know is most

Important to him how would you explain what he meant for for this te the years he wasn’t to he was a spirit of our team you know what I mean like he was the type of guy who made everybody that he played with better uh he made everybody

Who he played with uh enjoy the game of basketball and feel like they were a part of something bigger than themselves thank you tiby with you mentioning it catching up to you guys all the circumstances tonight how do you make sure that it also doesn’t catch up to

You guys tomorrow Wednesday as this season goes on and you get yourselves back yeah I mean it it’s a mental toughness test uh and it’s that simple and again I know our guys I know their ability to bounce back they’ve been resilient all year uh you know time and

Time again we’ve been kicked in the face uh with something else and we figured out a way to get back on top so uh there’s no doubt in my mind that our guys will figure it out and us as coaches will do our best to help them thank you

Cleveland Cavaliers Head Coach J.B. Bickerstaff spoke with the media following a 121-84 loss to the Miami Heat on March 24, 2024 at Kaseya Center.

  1. He says there is no excuses and then processed to make excuses. I can see them being tired but that was a total embarrassment

  2. Come on we gotta toughen up. We're getting out rebounded, making poor mistakes, getting beat to every loose ball.

  3. I would bench ANYONE who walked down the darned floor. Jarrett Allen would definitely be on the bench. The team is suffering under Bickerstaff. I said he needed to go when they were winning, so of course, i say it now. My college coach could do a better job.

  4. Is it me or does JB seem lost, bewildered with no good ideas for what to do to get the team playing good basketball?

  5. Stop making excuses about the injuries, there are other teams that are going to the same thing. Garland is supposed to be a leader on this team and again he hasn't stepped up, give porter and bates more time on the court. Good teams like Miami used most of the players to chip in

  6. Koby Altman sat with his hands in his pockets at the trade deadline thinking that this team had enough to compete for a title when he should of been proactive. How do u look at any of the cavs role players and see a guy that could carry a team if a starter goes down. These guys are mentally soft when the load gets heavy.. I miss Colin Sexton he had his youthful ups and downs but one thing about him he wasn't afraid of the moment or competing hard

  7. Softest, most fragile team in the NBA. Never seen an entire team get pulled (for good) with 8 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter. Embarrassing…

  8. I've been saying this since All Star break. It's time to make a significant change in lineups. Go back to what worked i.e. 1 pg, 1 big, 3 shooters. Garland and Mobley to the bench, AND it's not too late to fire the coach. Everyone disagreed. Some of y'all feel differently now… This team is going nowhere, about to be in 5th seed. Meanwhile, DG on the bench laughing during timeouts while down 40. Watch the media make more excuses for them, no accountability

  9. All season I've been saying 2 big men who can't shoot on the floor at the same time isn't working, Darius Garland isn't the PG for this team, and JB is not a championship level coach but these overly positive soft casual Cavs fans can't seem to comprehend it. No team in the NBA fears the Cavs. I'm betting that our potential 1st round opponents are hoping and praying to match up with the Cavs because we're the easiest way into the 2nd round for them. This offseason parting ways with Garland and J.B. Bickerstaff are the most important moves we can make in trying to salvage this teams chances of playoff success in the coming seasons. The reality is Mitchell will almost certainly opt out of his contract extension and whoever our Gm is at the time will have to part ways with him at the deadline. Idk who our new coach should be, but if we can deal Garland, Okoro, Niang, and some picks out of here for Trae Young, DO IT!. I think rumors will start about the Hawks looking to deal Trae Young right before the deadline next season. Remember the rumors of him having beef with the front office.

  10. Does this Coach ever take accountability or hold his team to it!! Every press conference excuse after excuse and he's created an extremely soft environment which showed in playoffs last year!
