In Toronto, I had a good feeling when I signed the contract, but their plan for how they wanted to use me as a player changed pretty quickly. I would have liked more communication, but that’s the way business works,” Schroder said.

    >Talking with the German website Kicker, Schroder said the Raptors’ plan for him changed during the season and was contrary to what the guard was initially promised.

    >”No, it was the best decision because the Raptors paid the most,” the German guard answered honestly.

Schroder is ideally a backup on a good team and only a starter on a desperate team

Did he say “at the end of the day” in this interview?

I’m glad we dumped him for nothing, he isn’t a guy you want mentoring young players.

And it was the correct decision. They promised him he’d start, he did start for 33 games, it didn’t work out great, Raps acquired a better starting PG in IQ, Dennis was redesignated as the 6th man, complained about it to the public, and was traded almost immediately after.

He’s right, that’s the way the NBA works. He got a fair shake and when it didn’t work, was given another opportunity elsewhere. And he’s still battling for a starting spot on a weaker (compared to pre-trade Raps) Nets team.

at the beginning of the season the franchise still hadn’t decided on a direction. if they were going to keep the OG/Siakam/Barnes core and try to make it work, then Dennis made a lot of sense.

once they made the OG trade and brought in IQ & Barrett, it didn’t make sense to keep Dennis around, and they tried to find a good place to send him. he just didn’t fit with the roster make up, likely didn’t want to be on a developmental/tanking team at this point in his career.

like Dennis says in the article, the NBA is a business, and sometimes things change quickly and the players are ultimately expendable and get moved around.

I remember when a significant portion of this sub was gloating about another Masai “masterclass” for essentially “trading Fred for cap space to sign Schroder and McDaniels” LMAO

Wish the best for Denis. Good player and seems like a nice dude. Hope he succeeds at Brooklyn or wherever he ends up.
