“The walk into Ball Arena was the toughest part of Christian Braun’s night Monday against Memphis.
After losing a friendly wager, Braun walked into the arena prior to Denver’s 128-103 win over the Memphis Grizzlies sporting teammate Julian Strawther’s No. 0 Gonzaga jersey after Strawther’s Bulldogs sent Braun’s beloved Kansas Jayhawks packing in the second round of the NCAA tournament, 89-68, on Saturday.
“Christian looked amazing. I think that was his best fit of the year, by far,” Strawther said. “Ain’t nothing like a little Zags jersey, and you see that I was the original zero. CB stole my number, but we’re not going to go too deep into that.”
Once he got Strawther’s jersey off and his blue No. 0 Nuggets jersey on, it was smooth sailing until he had to put on a Gonzaga hooded sweatshirt for his postgame press conference.
“I’m not putting it back on,” Braun, who won a national championship at Kansas, said with Strawther’s old jersey draped over his shoulder at his postgame press conference.
The second-year wing started with Aaron Gordon unavailable for the game and made 8 of his 10 shots and finished second to Nikola Jokic for the team lead in scoring with 17 points. Jokic set up Braun for a transition dunk in the first half, found him again with a no-look pass that got Braun a layup in the third and set up Braun’s final bucket, a step-back jumper.”
