J.B. Bickerstaff | Cavs at Hornets Post Game | 3.27.2024

Um I think the respect level for our opponent um you know we came out played you know fabulous offensively the first quarter um and just felt like the game was going to come easy to us we stopped defending in the first quarter um you know we were lazy in our rotations we

Were lazy in our Closeouts uh we didn’t compete on the ball and allowed them to get to the spots that they wanted to get to um you know we we just we w’t good defensively um you know we didn’t have the grit that we needed to win a game um

And it’s disappointing for sure um but we didn’t bring our best effort tonight having Max back what did you see from I thought Max was good you know after having so much time off um you know I think he came back and you know did what he does obviously it’s a little more

Difficult for him in those short minute bursts but um I thought he was effective CHR hey J so Chris you guys have won two straight games once since the All-Star break how do you explain that lack of inconsistency um I mean it’s that it is inconsistency um it’s

Inconsistency um you know in approach um it’s inconsistency um you know in our play clearly um and it’s on me to do a better job and figure out what the problem is um you know we try to stay pretty simple we stay consistent with you know game

Plans our syst system those types of things um but it’s my responsibility to figure it out is there like a level of frustration on your end growing with how you guys are playing coming down the stretch here yeah I mean again there there are circumstances for everything

Um you know tonight is definitely a frustrating uh game for us um because again I just don’t think we brought the right mental approach um our attitude um to winning and losing was not where it needed to be and again like um settled in the first quarter because we thought

The game was going to be easy cuz we were scoring uh and then time and time again you look up and we had defensive breakdown after defensive breakdown you know they’ll give up 69 points and a half um you know you don’t stand give yourself a chance to win basketball

Games like that and you’re playing against NBA players um regardless of the record what the record says like they’re NBA players and if you give them confidence and you give them an opportunity um they’re going to come back and it’s going to bite you in the

Ass and and that’s what happened to us tonight you talked about the defense throughout um offensively I think you went five straight empty possessions in the fourth quarter what did you see in terms of that with game execution um I thought again I I you know we dribbled

The ball a lot um we’re at our best when the ball is moving even in those situations um you know we had opportunities to make plays where I saw you know kickouts that were available um and we just didn’t make enough of the right plays

Cleveland Cavaliers Head Coach J.B. Bickerstaff spoke with the media following a 118-111 loss to the Charlotte Hornets on March 27, 2024 at Spectrum Center.

  1. Evan Mobley just doesn’t have an impact offensively for whatever reason jarred Allen should be the primary big period.

  2. Lose to 1 of the worst teams when you got tough games ahead not a good sign. This team seems like they don't care what playoff position they get

  3. Its the biggest kept secret, he's sooo gone after season!! NOT having established rotations is killing us, players have. No clue their role.

  4. 1st ever JB post gm. Press where he took accountability! Just maybe could it be a start to something, stop bickering at the refs and ESTABLISH some rotations and roles for these guys.

  5. No excuses. You lost to another crap team. Pathetic. You should have been fired last year. Wasting talent on this team. Hopefully JB will get fired now!

  6. With 2 minutes to go in pivotal Game 5 of a playoff series, game is tied. Who wants the ball in Darius Garland's possession? I'd love to hear your opinions…

  7. Not saying DG is THE problem, but this team does not operate well with him. He doesn't run the offense that worked so well at all. It's been confirmed for a while, when he plays, the team looks uncomfortable and clunky. Too many turnovers, poor shooting, horrible defense, putrid defense. DG & Mobley (Not Evan's fault) must be sent to the bench when Mitchell returns. DG has fallen off in a major way. I have 0 confidence in him with the ball in his possession. Yet, coach keeps trotting him out there to confirm our theory over and over again…

  8. This Cavs team was a lot better with a healthy Donovan Mitchell and no Darius Garland. When DM comes back, get rid of DG.

  9. Worst coach in the league. Without donovan mitchell this team isn't even a lotto team. When we gave up L Markenen and sexton we gave up what got us a play in seed before donovan.

  10. This organization gave up sexton and L Markenen for peanuts. Markenen is one of the top 30 players in the league right now statistically and sexton can get you 20+ a night on 50% shooting.

  11. This guys excuses litterally throws HIMSELF under the bus. All the issues are his coaching and lack of ability to get players to play hard

  12. Play craig porter 30 min and just see what happens with garland off the bench. Tell cpj to shoot too. Stop trying to make him suck.
