Brandon Miller um really doing a lot of that as he did all game and that’s the story Brandon Miller what a stud in this one 31 points for Brandon Miller he hit his threes in a way that he had not been at a consistent rate here recently but

He did in this one seven of 13 from Beyond The Arc he was 11 of 19 from the field to go for his 31 points six rebounds to hit both of his free throw attempts his points per shot attempt was way up compared to what it’s been here

Recently his usage Doug actually while it looked like he hasn’t taken over in recent games the usage was actually just a little bit more down than it usually is but still right up there still taking over what a game from Brandon Miller and it seems like the whole what’s up with

Brandon Miller episode we did a couple of days ago completely gone he’s back and he’s better than ever absolutely I mean his his three-point shot was locked in I think that fed into the confidence of the rest of his game um but he was scoring from everywhere and he was

Scoring critical buckets and I mean the two-handed yam that he put down uh was incredible on a possession that seemed to last forever there was one possession that the Hornets had that ended with that dunk there was like the Hornets turned it over a couple of times during

That possession and then uh and then uh either Cleveland would bail them out with a foul or also hit the ball right before it went out um it was insane and then you get the Hammer by by Brandon Miller um athleticism on full display leadership on full display and then I

Loved after the game was over you get a win and he just was like screaming into the air like he was kg when he won the championship like anything anything is possible including a hornet twin it was cathartic it was a release and he mirrored this is what I love I love when

Stars of any sport mirror the fans they mirror that fan excitement on a game and they don’t take it for granted and that’s what you saw from Brandon Miller there he was mirroring what the they brought the energy the Hornets and Brandon Miller brought the energy Spectrum Center matched it and then

After the game you saw Brandon Miller feeding off of that energy too he was so happy afterwards you could see with every question that he answered and then Ashley shamed asked him what the message was to the fans and then he just turns around and then does the heart sign and

Says I love the fans thank you thank you and then he runs off all happy and excited and then doesn’t take him long to go to the podium where I know you saw a significant difference in his body Doug once he was we’ll talk about yeah coming up yeah we’ll talk we’ll talk

Muscle watch the doubters yeah at least he got to the rim a little bit more in this one right like if we want to feed into that a little bit more so yes he shot 13 of his field goal attempts from distance so that’s a

Lot but also if you look at the other shots he took Doug only one shot in the mid-range and he missed it last night every other shot that he had was in the paint and only missed one of them so I think he was like four or five or three

Or four from uh the paint distance restricted area got there a little bit I think three of the four were in the restricted area and so Brandon getting to the foul line just a little bit more just turn it up just a tick only two foul shots last looks like we lost

Ankle injury will miss the remainder of the Season as he continues rehab ball averaged a career high 23.9 points in 22 games this season so I’ve changed the graphic on the side we are bumping as much as it pains me we are bumping muscle watch Brandon Miller’s muscle

Watch we are bumping that segment to tomorrow as well because we have to talk through this breaking news it’s breaking it’s not shocking it’s not really all that surprising if you’ve been paying any attention uh to what’s been going on we just did a show uh speculating that both he and Mark

Williams would me miss the rest of the season and before or during the game against Cleveland last night we did uh get an out for the season designation for both Seth Curry and Cody Martin but not lamelo ball and not Mark Williams and so I was ready tomorrow

Tomorrow to talk about the fact that not getting those names out there could provide some additional hope because if you were announcing those guys out for the season you’d think well you know let’s just announce everyone um but instead uh the news breaks here from Shams and it was confirmed by Charlotte

Hornets PR and and a number of sources so we you know Walker and I will get together we’ll we’ll really kind of tackle this from all angles tomorrow but just giving you some of my initial thoughts this is obviously disappointing uh that he is going to

Miss uh so I mean I think he’s only played in 58 games over the past two seasons it’s disappointing for lamelo because I thought in the 22 games that he did play you heard the career high average 23.9 I think he could have extended that through the rest of the

Season because he was starting to address some of the issues or some of the gaps in his game that we had talked about hey this is what’s keeping him from being an all NBA a contention this is what he has to improve on getting to the rim consistently finishing at the

Rim and also getting fouled getting getting those trips to the line that can make 40 points 40 point games possible that was the next Evolution for lamelo Ball’s offensive game which is already so Dynamic and powerful and impactful to the Charlotte Hornets but to get him to

That Pantheon that was what he was going to have to do he started to do that it was exciting and then the ankle injuries started uh to happen again and so a lot of ankle injuries I’m sure a lot of concern in his Camp I’m sure a lot of a

Lot more concern from the organization that is here’s the fact they are on the hook for a Max contract for the next five years that doesn’t begin until next season he’s not even on the max contract right now that the clock doesn’t start on that until next season all of the

Incentive which is why I was skeptical he would play again all of the incentive is to get him healthy for game one preseason but game one of the NBA season next year and the challenge for Lam Melo will be to block out all of the noise that will surround this news there will

Be I mean there are it’s not will be there are at present moment doubters about the future of Lamela Ball’s career not just in Charlotte but just career although I will say in terms of silver Lings none of the news around his ankle injury that I’ve seen signals hey

There’s some career threatening career ending stuff going on here there is with his brother Lonzo we’ve heard that like hey this could could really keep him out forever that’s not what we’ve heard here it’s just taken a lot of time to work through these issues because you’ve had

Multiple ankle injuries on on both ankles but on the same that right ankle so the incentive is to get get him 100% healthy but there will be doubters there will be haters there are doubters right now there are haters right now and he’s going to have to block all of that

Out and have a great off season which he he didn’t get an opportunity to in the in the previous offseason because he was recovering from surgery and so he started slow so hopefully he gets a healthy offseason good preseason and then hits the ground running in game one because now he has

To really I think essentially go back to the drawing board rebuild what what had begun as an All-Star career he has to rebuild that and and rebuild trust that he can stay on the floor that he can play games I was hopeful that he would play a few

More games this season because that any opportunity he has to play live five on five action improves his game improves Chemistry Between he and Brandon Miller all the talk draft pre-draft was you know find somebody to pair alongside l ball it’ll be interesting to see how that conversation shifts a little bit I

Think it’s already starting to shift a little bit towards you know this organization might have to sooner rather than later find someone to pair next to Brandon Miller but all of it was about finding him him a a a robin and you can’t build that Batman Robin chemistry or you can’t build that

Avengers chemistry unless you’re out on the floor playing and so it and and it’s it’s so difficult to fairly evaluate anyone on this team including a guy that’s going to go into unrestricted free agency next season and is a friend of lamelo balls miles Bridges how do you how do you fairly

Evaluate miles’s performance this season when you’re trying to figure out hey do we bring this guy back or do we not it just makes everything more difficult even if we had gotten 10 games that that’s that’s a good sample size it’s not a great sample size but it’s a good

Sample size to say here’s what a healthy lamelo ball 100% healthy this is what it looks like when he’s next to Miles Bridges when he’s next to Brandon Miller when they’re cooking now you don’t have that opportunity so big challenges ahead for lamelo ball big challenges ahead for uh the the organization

Obviously someone or multiple people had hope that he would make a return because it’s it hasn’t been necessarily great for the org or for lamelo to have H him out this long and then finally pull the plug because everybody every time they they released an injury report that had

Lamelo ball out everybody was like oh God here we go and then you would see images of him running around working out practice pregame and a lot of people looked at that and said why isn’t he playing he looks fine you had Steve Clifford sending mix messages sometimes

He would go on the radio and say he’s close and sometimes he would say I don’t know I don’t know anything about this I’m not a doctor mix messages when you have when you have no messaging or you have mixed messaging what it allows uh to what that allows to

Happen is that people fill in their own messaging you don’t control the narrative anymore and this goes from Lelo ball too who could have been out and speaking about this and saying here’s the truth here’s where I am here’s what I want to do here’s what I can’t

Do and so now you know people will say what they say the point is bottom line he’s got to get healthy he’s got to not only get healthy but stay healthy and prove all the doubters wrong and we’ll see what he can do next season unfortunately we can’t see what he what

What if he can do that this season okay other Silver Lining Brandon Miller you got to step up I wish I could talk muscle watch in the next segment but I do I don’t want to if they had lost the game against Cleveland then I would just say next segment we’re doing muscle

Watch uh but they did win and we haven’t talked a lot we talked a lot about Brandon Miller in that first segment when Walker was on but we haven’t talked about the win in general because it wasn’t just about Brandon Miller so that’s what I want to talk about coming

I think it’s important for the Charlotte Hornets because I think it well it proved two things it proved that I think Steve Clifford had a pretty good read on this team which is that it was tired and Road weary because had they C after that excuse was laid after the loss against

Cleveland in Cleveland had that excuse been laid out and then they come back home and lay another egg have another 20po first quarter have another blowout in the second quarter no Hustle No heart no energy offensively had all of that happened then I think the the questions that you already have about Steve

Clifford’s future and Charlotte would have gotten questioner the seat the hot seat would have would have been in Flames because you can’t come out and say hey my team’s tired they need to get back home and then you go back home and you lay an egg

Can’t do it but they didn’t they came and they responded and they looked energetic and they looked like a different team message sent message received so it was it was important for the Hornets to do this in front of a home crowd that was also tired the home

Crowd was tired of watching this team lose both in Spectrum Center and on the road but it also proved another thing that without lamelo ball and without Mark Williams and without Cody Martin and without Seth Curry this team has a very very small window to win games I

Think even with all of those players the the window is bigger but it but it ain’t cracked all the way open okay it’s not wide open but without those players without the playmaking of the three guards that are out and the rim protection that Mark Williams provided and and chasing guys

Out of the paint and it allowed Nick Richards to to provide some of that for the bench and and you actually had some size not a lot of size you just some size that your window for winning games is very small and it starts in transition when this team pushes the

Pace when they force misses that then allows them to push the pace off of live rebounds and they’re getting deflections which allows them to get it steals into transition this team wins games go back and look at the stats from cleaning the glass for the Memphis win and the Brooklyn win

And you’re going to notice two very similar games in that they got out into transition more the frequency with which they got into transition was higher and their points for play especially in that game against Brooklyn off the charts they were not only getting in a transition they were finishing because

They got out of the transition against Orlando which was what you want to do because you don’t want to let that defense get set the plan was solid it’s just when they got there they were blowing layups and not and not you know not fing the court right not passing correctly it was

Just all a disaster but in this game against Cleveland they put it all together they were able to push the ball uh on more possessions and they were finishing and that was Miles Bridges finishing up top that was meic no look passes that was Trey man finding the right guy making

The right move it was everybody moving around and and they had a mindset of we’re going to attack quickly because you cannot let a team team that has Jared Allen and Evan Moy you cannot let them Park in the paint and the way you keep them from parking in the paint is

You beat them to the spot and that’s what the Hornets did and they won the hustle plays they won the hustle battles fast break they wanted 16 to7 turnover battle 20 points off of turnovers 27- 15 in favor of the Hornets the second chance battle which is something the

Hornets have not done very aggressively this season they did last season they haven’t crashed the boards as much this season they won that battle 14 to1 against a team again with Jared Allen and Evan Mobley down low that’s impressive but you got to have everybody playing well to compete against good

Teams this particular team why because there’s no player that they are hiding I think I’m I’m super high on Nick Smith Jr but he’s not like the answer like oh if they just played Nick Smith Jr more if they just played JT Thor they just

More Thor it no there’s no answer on the bench there’s no answer in Greensboro he’s Clifford’s playing an eight-man rotation because that’s really that’s the number of NBA level talented players that he has on the roster right now okay all of those guys have to play well

They don’t all have to score 30 points but they all have to play well and so you get a monster game in this one uh from Grant Williams in particular who had get you the final box uh the box score line on him Grant Williams did a

Lot of bit of everything finishing 16 points seven rebounds five assists steal and a block huge rebounds down the stretch for Grant Williams poku was handing out all kinds of sauce uh I mean just handling the ball in the half court like somebody that his size like that’s

Where the Unicorn idea was built on like poku has the Unicorn potential because a guy that’s that tall and that long shouldn’t be able to dribble like that but he can uh and he wasn’t turning the ball over and so poku had a good game too so you got contributions Off the

Bench you had meic in in pass first mode you had guys finishing layups including miles Bridges who was cutting Baseline Time After Time and Cleveland was just falling asleep on those plays so across the board you had a focused team you had an energetic team and everybody was contributing and that

That is the only way the Hornets have a lot of tough competition coming up this Cleveland game was not the the last good team they’re going to play this season if they want to continue to compete in these games they’re not going to win all of these games because look this game

Was tight in the fourth quarter and they made plays down the stretch to one them this game but Cleveland could have very well gone on a really quick 70 run to bury the Hornets in the four they didn’t and the Hornets didn’t allow them to but

There will be games like that but if they want to continue to compete and not get beat by 20 30 40 against these good teams this is the kind of performance you have to have and you have to have it consistently and that’s what they can

Build upon and that’s how you build a culture you want to start to build a culture you get a few of these surprise wins down the stretch and you keep fighting and you keep playing and then you take that same energy into your off into your individual off Seasons you

Build and then you come back together and you have institutional memory of like hey remember how we fought at the end of that season we were together remember how we played let’s pick that up instead of oh man remember how hard the end of last season was got blown out

Time After Time everybody kind of quit yeah what kind of attitude do you want these players to bring in to to to the next training camp that’s the question and I think it’s an easy answer and and that’s why these guys got to keep fighting and that’s why I’m look I’m
