How Injuries Have Affected the Raptors Development | Raptors Today

Welcome back to Raptors today Paul Jones alongside Ashley dacking Eric Smith the baby Raptors 9005 keep moving along as well big win for them recently let’s hear from Matt Cullen and Warren Ward all right thanks very much the Raptors 9005 took a 11o deficit at halftime Warren and Ted we’re throwing

That out the window and Cru to a 14o win over the Detroit Pistons affiliate the Motor City Cru today a career game for multiple Raptors 905 today including darl Morel first ever double double as a pro and Omari MOA career-high 29 Points big big performances in the comeback

Here definitely and I think Maris Noel set the tone for both of these guys but after he was limited with um his uh his ad minute restriction these two guys stepped up tremendously Omari Moore able to drive to the basket look his shot also find his teammates and made great

Decisions darl morcel has had some turnover issues in this game none none whatsoever found a way to be effective finding his teammates finding his his own offense and look to be aggressive and coming off that bench and I can’t stress that enough both these guys attacking downhill every single

Possession that they had and it it was it was an impressive impressive performance for both of them and I think it goes a long way for their confidence it sure does ending this season on Friday against the same team but a big reason why the 905 were able to come

Back in this game Warren offensive rebounding 17 in the game and Motor City one of the better teams in this league at limiting the offensive board so the 905 really hustled it there definitely they only give up around 13 a game but the 9:05 were relentless on the glass

Again and this is part of the aggression so getting downhill darl morcel again making his presence felt Xavier Simpson not doing a good job boxing out again miles Burns here just out hustling everybody in transition getting that ball off off of a miss and then mcor

Maker with a nasty flush here great move on the post and then getting that ball back and letting you know about it so that just goes to show those are three really good examples of what the 905 did in that second half took Motor City completely out of what they wanted to do

Cuz they like to get up and run but you can only run once you have the basketball 905 we’re just keeping the basketball alive delir especially keeping the ball alive and 905 were able to secure it and get another possession Jaden deay are another member on this

Team with a career day 16 points you mentioned Maris Noel setting the tone 16 minutes in the first half on a minute restriction career days for everybody all right Motor City Raptors 905 on and we run it back and do it all over again at 7:30 p.m. Eastern tip off

At the Paramount Fine Food Center all right back to you all right Raptors 905 uh providing extra players for the big Raptors and there’s a trickle down because it hurts in a sense their team I mean the ultimate is to be in the NBA and they send those guys up but now

They’re playing without some of their best players so they the the injuries the issues with the big team roll all the way down the hill and listen we’ve all seen how great Raptor 905 has been for the development of the big team you think about the championship year and

Eric you and I do it all the time on the radio we Ashley we reel off all the guys with Fred and Pascal and norm and all these guys that Delon Wright they all developed in 9005 and helped the big team but now you’ve got guys coming up

From 9005 trying to do it in the big leagues and it’s the situation the type of development I would say Ashley is very different yeah Eric well to me the biggest thing that stands out is Jonesy you’ve got guys now like let’s just look at last night let’s look at the last

Couple of weeks guys that would be playing against probably second units predominantly right Andor playing against third units in mop-up time and what not in fourth quarter they’re now starting and starting against Allstars and teams that are trying to jockey for playoff positions and seatings and everything else that’s a major

Difference with due respect look at the Raptor schedule coming up right like you you you’ve got you’ve got Philly the Lakers Minnesota Milwaukee like it just like and they’re looking at Toronto like hey we need that three fth your starting lineup if not four fifths now depending

On what happens with oai is probably guys that would have been playing with 905 yeah the thing with this though is so 9:05 traditionally with all the guys that you mentioned was working as extra Reps for the players the Raptors knew were going to be in their lives for a

Long time right so they’re sending down Fred they’re sending down Pascal knowing that they’re going to get them back it’s working a little bit opposite and more traditionally this year where it’s like they’ve stacked their 905 team with players they feel like have potential and then they’re picking and choosing

Who they want to bring up in moments of need right that’s more traditional in the sense of what the G league is there for but what I would say is that now these players who are getting an exceptional opportunity are you ready to put up because this is what you’ve been

Camor for and so now it becomes really a gauntlet where to your point you’re playing against really top level NBA Talent On Any Given night so what do you got to show for it and big it’s a big thing to ask big step it’s a big step

And it makes the evaluation it skews the evaluation because you’re looking wait a minute we thought this guy was going to be 905 maybe coming up and playing a little all of a sudden it’s like yo you got jayen Brunson you know uh hey hey hey NE next game uh Tyrese Maxi that’s

You like it’s it’s tough on these guys and it it it makes their development you you’ve really got to evaluate it to me me Eric In a Different Light I I think you absolutely do I think it’s a great Point Jonesy when you think about who they’re going against versus who they

Would have been going against and then I I also think of like say a guy like DJ carton that comes up and shows some little flashes right away and then he gets hurt as well so then you start thinking like you can’t you can’t sit

Here and do the W A could well if I had stayed at 905 I wouldn’t have been in that game and then I wouldn’t have got hurt and I could have still Excel but how much does even that hurt you get a chance to finally get on the big stage

To finally go prove yourself and now you get hurt on top of that so now you can’t play at either level and somebody else now is taking the minutes you would have had and moving ahead of you on the depth chart on both levels in a sense it

Really makes things difficult and I don’t want to get too far off the topic here but a buddy of mine have we have this argument every year around this time too when it comes to college basketball and the NCAA men’s or win is super exciting no doubt but there’s a

Massive difference a massive difference in the talent level and the caliber of basketball that is being played at the Collegiate level versus the pro level so I don’t want to hear anybody talking to me about the NCAA and oh it’s better no it’s not it’s it’s a hell of a lot worse

It’s not even better than the G League well I mean that you know people talking about oh Yukon could could could beat the Detroit Pistons are you crazy no give your head a shake it wasn’t me you know I but I just people I know it was you on your burner Twitter account

Just just just people that say that but I I mean I think I still think that if you are management with the Raptors you need to be looking at these 9 guys and evu I think it is a detriment though I really do because I do think

That sometimes when you fast track that development it’s not always going to be the best case scenario for these players because again they show flashes but then it’s like can you sustain that and they probably can’t at this point or else they wouldn’t have been playing in the

G- league in the first place so I wish them well we are taking a break we will be back on Raptors today just after this thanks for watching the Toronto Raptors YouTube channel check out our latest video And subscribe for more in a crowd wide open that was great

The 905 are wrapping up their season on Friday but it’s been a very different year compared to the past with the number of injuries to the NBA squad.
