Woods yet do they go into this draft with a mindset of best available whenever they pick or best fit you are the guest you take on the first one if you’re GM for the Spurs on draft lottery night I’m sorry draft day you’re looking at that that big board you’re like okay

Am I gonna go best available or best fit what are you gonna do Ry well number one like I’ve always said it’s probably you know trade down you know get as much assets as possible as my first stor GM but if I had to pick one of them it’s

Actually best available um you’ve got so many so many holes to fill on this team and you know I get the arguments of soan does this and Vel does this but let’s be realistic the only guarantee on the Spurs is Victor wiim Bama so I mean

You’ve got so many so many voids to fill so many positions that you’ve got to actually you know get better at so it’s best available player if they get the number one pick I’m off for moving down get into some extra draft assets but I mean the only the only player that you

Can probably look at at number one right now is Alexander Zar uh he’s a seven foot one guy but if you were to go with maybe him you could kind of build that twin tower because he’s more in my opinion of you know a true Center I

Guess if you want to say um very quick you know can get up and down the floor him and wmy side by side would be nightmare for anybody in the paint you know when it comes to guards getting in the paint or anything so that would

Probably be one one guy to look at but overall Jeff I mean you mentioned you know experts and everybody and you know I’ve even said it to it’s a very weak draft so pretty much what you get at one you can get around seven eight uh you

Just kind of gotta go best available player if this draft this is actually going to be a draft where you keep your picks in yeah you know and I’m sorry you went with best available correct yeah just best player available yeah just best play yeah um I I get that you know

Because you mentioned like the holes the SPs got to plug in especially we don’t know if this roster and see some turnover I thinking it might uh head into the new season so best available is probably the best thing to do but for me I’m going to go with best fit uh right

Now I think the Spurs they’re in the the rebuild they got to find players that fit around wimy and okay we’ll throw in Deon as well cu the way he’s playing late but mainly wimy and I want to see players that fit with him so the first

Fit I need to see with wimy is somebody who can space that floor a shooter uh what about uh that guy Reed uh Reed sheeper what are you feeling on him what are you seeing out of him in the tournament uh right now according to uh CBS Sports mock draft they project the

Spurs falling at number two and picking Reed Shepard look 12 points per game for Reed 4.3 assist 4.2 assist 54% shooting from three I get it’s the college line but hopefully that can translate he’s coming in as a shooter if the spur is on the board I wouldn’t mind looking at

Best fit and the fit right now is Reed you know with Reed Shepard I mean you’re talking about a Kentucky product that is a 6 foot 3 1887 lbs you know if you got a pro comparison I I look at him more like a Kirk Heinrich if you remember him from back

In the day uh out of Kansas I mean a good shooter he can light up the scoreboard you know especially can space the floor does fill a position that the Spurs need which is two guard and then also some point guard as well but I think his performance obviously

Kentucky being bounc in the first round his performance in the tournament itself just really wasn’t up to par there this draft is a lot more based off of potential than anything else you don’t really have a guarantee so where you know people may want Reed Shepard because of his shooting you also may

Want a type of player like Cody Williams out of Colorado who is more of an all-around athlete uh he’s more athletic but Reed Shepard at that position he does feel a void I mean you need to space to floor he really shot the ball well in college can score as well just

Lacks a lot of quickness so you know it’s kind of like you’re it’s kind of like what we’re both saying it makes sense to draft you know for position and also best player available because in this type of draft you’re kind of just it’s kind of like a ho home draft you’re

Just picking this guy just kind of to pick and see where he feels in your team yeah another player that I would look at and say okay this guy is a best fit for the Spurs and you you uh you you nailed it on the head I was looking at Cody

Williams at 52% shooting from three line 14.7 points per game at Colorado uh you know 68 190 I mean I think we just tap him he’ll probably fall over you know he’ll definitely add some weight to his frame but what about a guy like Rob Dillingham do you think the

Spurs should Target him I if if he’s on the board you know dillingham’s another guy that’s kind of a mystery he kind of fits in that Reed Shepard category where if you kind of if you got two top 10 picks for the Spurs and you happen to go

Dillingham and uh reach Shephard you’re basically getting kuy’s backourt so I I kind of like both players I’m not in love with both players uh I’ve I’ve actually got Nico topic higher than Rob Dillingham when it comes to point guard play I have him a lot higher than

Dillingham but dillingham’s is is one of those sexy picks reminds me a lot of Darius Garland uh who’s a great player in the NBA but again I if I had to go with either one of them I would probably lean more towards Rob Dil ham over Reed Shepard

Just because he feels he feels an immediate need for the San Antonio Spurs as where Shepard is a need when it comes to spacing but I mean you’ve got a guy like Devin and if Kell sticks around he can spread the floor as well yeah according to again we’re looking at the

CBS Sports uh mock draft kind of have to Rudy we’re at T the station here but uh topic another guy that a lot of Spurs fans were high on right now uh he’s falling down to number eight he’s still a to 10 at least according to

Their mock but how much is that knee injury been sidelining him and hurting him as far as his stock it looks like he’s taking somewhat of a hit because he was projected early top three top five yeah so topic you know he’s a six6 point guard let’s let’s reiterate that he’s a

Point guard at 6’6 which is very tall I mean you’re going back into the penny Hardway types days but uh reminds me a lot of like a Goran dragic type player you know can easily score can create for his teammates I know the knee injur Y is

A concern but when you’re 18 I feel that you’re able to recover a lot faster and the good thing with about topic is that if he’s drafted by the Spurs they’re going to bring him along pretty slowly like they normally do with players with injuries and I wouldn’t be surprised if

Maybe maybe a draft in stash with him or put him in the G League I think that’d be good for him I think you’re going to see a lot of him probably in the G league and not in a bad way just Hill he’s recovered uh if Now by for whatever

Means if he’s able to go in the summer league and he looks fine I fully expect him to be on the roster if he’s drafted by the Spurs I don’t see him playing in Austin very very much maybe on those nights where the Spurs have you know

Their off for like three or four days and Austin has a game you may see him go back and forth but topic is actually a very popular pick um for some spurs fans he’s actually higher than me when it comes to Rob Dillingham at the point

Guard position so topic is a great pick for the San Antonio Spur yeah I mean it looks like where the Spurs are at right now they cannot go wrong it’s because remember they are still in a rebuild they’re going to finish with the worst record in franchise

History you know you want to do best available sure because again the roster may be turned over I mean you know in the offseason you want to do best fit that works as well because the Spurs do need plug from the point guard spot to a

A floor spacer no a shooter a consistent shooter so that’s where I think the Spurs are heading into this draft obviously the other things are on the table you know trading up I’m sorry trading down trading out but as far as this topic is concerned we’re going to

Be under the impression that they’re going to keep their pick and whatever they pick is it best available or best fit uh if the Spurs do win the number one pick SAR is your guy you’re getting him right away ah man you know SAR is probably the

One guy who you would look at and say okay when you look at potential which this entire 2024 draft is based off of potential he’s probably that guy you’re looking at okay I think we can actually use him for years and years and put him in a better position for helping our

Team so the Spurs do get number one I think SAR is there can’t fall asleep on Zachary re reash as well he feels a need at shooting guard uh six foot eight type of guy so um he reminds me a lot of like a Harrison Barnes type player which again

Makes makes perfect sense for the Spurs so I think you couldn’t go wrong with either player but also I I mean you can down and trade down if you’re at one still get a player you know probably uh I’m trying to think off the top of my

Head uh maybe like a Devin Carter from Providence is a guy that you might be able to look at um he plays a similar like pinski from Golden State you saw how hot he was uh beginning the middle of the year so Devon Carter is a guy you

Can probably look at trading down for six fo three guard he’s a point guard shooting guard position I mean there’s a lot of guys you can trade down for still get massive value you in this draft Yeah you there’s You Know Rich J has been on the Spurs

Radar because we’ve seen RC Buford go out and watch him play we saw the owner Peter jle go out and see him play so they’re showing their cards you know R must be high on their their draft wish list by the way uh Zachary he’s shooting nearly 50% from the three-point
