He spend a good chunk of time talking Creighton and college hoops, but he also talks a lot about his NBA journey. Ryen asks him to compare all the coaches he’s had, and Doug talks about how guys like Carlisle and Pop hold everyone accountable and get buy in across the roster.
He says he’s also had super smart X’s and O’s coaches that didn’t have that same buy in and it hurt the team cohesion. Gotta be talking about our Nates, Bjorkgren for certain. You could probably lump Hornacek, Hoiberg, and maybe Billy Donovan at OKC in there as well. Looking back on that 20-21 Pacers team it never seemed like Bjorkgren had buy in from the locker room, and McDermott pretty much reinforces that.
