Hopefully it’s just contract negotiation from Mitchell. Really want him to retire here but ultimately it’s a business

Gilbert was always gonna say what he said. Don, same thing.
Nothing changes

I don’t see why this is such a big problem.

I don’t think this is a major deal, but it’s also not a very positive sign either. Not a red flag, but certainly not a green flag. In an ideal world, he’d shut down the rumors and just extend now.
Clearly he at least wants to explore what other options he has. I don’t think that’s a surprise. Cleveland wasn’t his #1 option. But at the same time, I think it’s certainly one of the better options for him all things considered. Knicks are good without him and he’s pretty duplicative with Brunson (who’s cheaper). Nets are a mess.
Lakers are probably the next best option. They have Bron and AD. But they don’t have any assets to trade for him. So he’d have to wait until the following offseason to sign with them.

If he doesn’t want to be here, then fine. Lets get what we can and continue to build. I’m not gonna beg and plead for a guy who’s a 1 time All NBA 3rd teamer and has a 2-6 record in the playoffs. This isn’t LeBron here.
On the other hand, if he wants to be a part of this and do what it takes to build a winning team, great. Welcome aboard for the long haul. Im just not going to get to excited or nervous one way or the other.

I think Gilbert just put some pressure on him and Mitchell obviously won’t say much until the deal is done (or not). I hope that if Mitchell doesn’t extends in the off-season, Gilbert stays true to his word and trades him. We really can’t lose him and not get anything in return.

I think he extends for two years. He’ll have 10 years under his belt at that point, meaning he’ll be able to qualify for 35% of the cap

Not the time for Gilbert to be nudging. Stay silent and it will work out. Start making assumptions publically and it might not.
