I’ve missed about 90% of the games this year because of ROOT. I hope they make a move!

Just going to copy and paste my comment from there.
Well I’m pretty sure it ain’t the Blazers that want out of Root. The majority of a franchises money comes from the tv deal but with the regional sports network dying it’s left all the major sports scrambling for a solution. Payroll in MLB is down significantly this year because of tv revenue and the Mariners owning Root means it’s hit them incredibly hard. The Mariners probably view this as a way to cut expenses and too have more money available. For the Blazers this is probably best case for the fans who want to watch games at home and bad for everything else (production value, payroll, fan experience outside of viewing on tv etc.)
Where the Blazers go from here I have absolutely no idea. I don’t think direct to consumer streaming will generate revenue so I would rule that out. I think local over the air brodcasts might work but would have some incredibly bad drawbacks (how to stream, post and pre game shows?) Ultimately the best case scenario for the Blazers would be having a major streaming service (Netflix, Disney+, Max, Peacock, Apple TV, Paramount+, Amazon Prime) setup a contract with the team to broadcast games in the market at no extra cost to subscribers in the market. All production of the broadcast handled by the Blazers (Ads, Pre and Post game, broadcast booth, visuals, and audio). This still nets the Blazers money in a tv deal, expands the availability to the local fans. There is precedent for this in a small amount. The 2023 Friday Night New York Yankees games were broadcasted in market exclusively on Prime. Prime subscribers in the market did not need to pay an upcharge and production was still handled by YES Network (The yankees own network similar to how the Mariners own Root.)
