Lot of people and I admitted I watched the first half and I was like I’m good uh there’s just limitations with that game that sometimes I even see in the men’s college game where I was like I want to see Devin Booker in New Orleans all right so I um

The differences in the game are true but one thing that Charlie I’ve said this to Charlie a few times is like intense Stakes yeah that’ll get me and so that’s what it was for me because you’re right like the the differences of the game and also like understanding that it is a

Different game and the the only thing about the games that’s tough I think is sometimes the disparity and this happens in college football sometimes too where the disparity between the best players on the floor and some of the other players on the floor sometimes that’s

Like a shot cuz I you see Caitlyn do something and then she’ll pass it someone else and then it’s like oh yall not in the same league but overall yeah I I like watching it ju guu was fun even though she lost Paige Becker’s my favorite player in basketball which

Really upset um people I was watching the game with what anyway well let’s guys let’s talk some NBA we are I don’t know a week and a half away from the playing tournament and the West has become really interesting cuz I don’t know how if it’s eight of the top 11

Teams League eight of the top 10 there there are a lot of good teams in the west right now I think it’s fair to say that a lot of people think Denver because of the championship pedigree because they have the best player in the in the world in yic and depending on

Murray’s injury they’re still a title favorite but outside of Denver who do you guys trust the most in the west as we sort of work our way through it i’ would probably say Minnesota with some version of a healthy towns is that just a belief in Anthony Edwards it’s has a

Lot to do with Anthony Edwards because I’m not the biggest towns guy and I think there are times we’ve seen in the past where goar matchup specific can work against him because he doesn’t really do anything to you when he has the basketball but they all play defense

And they all play defense really hard like McDaniels on the ball is ridiculous Alexander Walker’s decided like he it becomes contagious he comes in plays defense Monty Morris was out there against Denver the other night chasing guys around and when it’s like late or a big possession because it’s just hard to

Ask ant to score 30 and carry you offensively and then play lock down defense the entire time it’s just you just don’t see it a ton from the best players in the league but when he dials it up it’s ridiculous you know Nas is Like A good help Defender so there’s

Just a lot there even though I would say throughout the year the one thing that scares me about them is some of the offensive execution and if teams want to load up defensively on Ant it’s just kind of hard to do it all by yourself in today’s game because I think the

Defenses are just really good like they’re they’re you know people can glorify the from like a couple hard fouls in the 80s and 90s but the technical stuff that they do with defenses now um is is just really really good so if it’s like only one guy that

You’re kind of scared of uh and even though like I said like cat’s not exactly my favorite guy just having his three-point shot making as spacing off of some of the ant stuff is really good so you know OKC as much as I love them in the depth and I’ll make this quick

Their rebounding stuff the rebounding stuff’s getting a little bit better post Allstar but I just don’t know how Chad survives three rounds of ducking a front line that I think at times we’ve seen him have a lot of problems with even though I love him and who he’s been as a

Rookie and this Clippers thing you know went from look out like this might be the team to be Denver for two months to they’re playing defense that’s ranked among the teams that are tanking and losing on purpose and the Clippers are like right down there with them and

There’s probably going to be some health thing um and then I would say you know Phoenix there was a San Antonio game with them and Phoenix in the rematch when they played back toback where after that game I was like you know I know they were great in the

First half against New Orleans and got that win against another hot team so yeah it’d be Denver because of joic won and then Minnesota be number two that I trust but it’s exciting because I don’t really know so you don’t have to apologize for going long because we had

You on because of your basketball expertise but I do also like I was surprised because well first of all the the playoffs is slightly different because of the like series and then the like more sophisticated level of coaching you brought up like the more sophisticated defensive strategies and I

Think that’s what scares me off of OKC is like the youth and the the coaching the I guess the upgraded level of game planning in a playoff series that you see in basketball that you don’t necessarily see uh game to game in the regular season and you think about

Youth and experience and those sorts of things but I would say that your point about is it fair for me to still so I was assuming you go one way and I was going to come in with my big take about how important defense is in the playoffs

And that would lead me to the Timberwolves but then I get scared because of the history of gobear in the playoffs is there any reason to believe that they figured out and I I’ll even Grant you a healthy Carl Anthony towns is there any reason to to believe that

They figured out how to play with goar in the playoffs and not get played off the Flor well when the Clippers beat the Jazz the year they were asking goar to do something ridiculous they were asking him to cover the rim and then they were asking him to close out to a small

Lineup in the corner so it looked bad um and there’s other times where I would just say like a step is a different level of a challenge in the switch pulling him away like nobody’s going to do well with that I think you know Prime Chris Paul like that was something else

Like I’ve had other people argue with me like look at points per possession you know what you’re talking about I’m like I don’t know man I feel like there were some big possessions there late in some of those playoff games where it was a problem and the other problem was that

He wasn’t making you pay for going small because he’s actually really bad with the basketball in his hands he just just is like he’s going to get a few points here and there because he gets so many rebounds and he’s around the rim but he’s still somebody like on a cut where

You Trail the ball handler after the screen like you still throw it to him to keep him engaged but I think that’s why you know Donovan Mitchell and some of the other guys in the Jazz are like I’m just sick of ducking it down to him and

The problem is um with Utah he was kind of their second star so he expected more and I think he’s accepted kind of where he is in the pecking order of the scores with them but it becomes more about the matchup part of it because I’ve watched during the regular season the

Timberwolves have owned the Clippers and if you look at what Denver’s trying to do and this most recent example isn’t great because Murray’s not playing and it’s really hard for Denver to not have Murray because other than Murray I think Reggie Jackson is probably the only guy

Other than yic obviously of like who else do you have that can create off the dribble and get their own stuff which you’re going to need in the playoffs when the possessions just get stuck and Denver doesn’t really have a lot of those guys a lot of those guys are

Complimentary they’re kind of waiting to be set up Porter Jr’s like that Gordon’s like that Pope is kind of like that and you know Christian Brown are they play at point guard sometimes because they’re thin uh you you’ve just seen in these non-m Murray games where it became a

Real problem but one of the best things that Denver does is they run Aaron Gordon up and down to the Baseline in the dunker spot so if you leave him to go double joic it’s the easiest thing in the world for yic throw to Boston was awful with this play really for the

Entire game against Denver at Denver in the recent loss where if you take Aaron Gordon and you try to stretch the floor with him against goar because that’s what they’ll do is they’ll put goar on Gordon so that goar can then help off of Gordon because they’re not worry about Gordon’s

Three-point shooting and then Nas was the primary on jic so it really it messes everything up because then if you you know because if you’re ignoring Gordon then your spacing is messed up so I like them in some of the matchup stuff that I’ve done and I just don’t know

That chat and Jaylen Williams 2 the big from Arkansas I just don’t know if that’s enough to get through with all the size um and that’s that’s why you know that’s why I’m looking at them going matchup wise there’s just a little bit more that I’m excited about that

Aron Gordon sort of duck in alleyoop or duck in layup is one of my favorite things with yish because he just makes it look so simple he’s one of those guys on TV where you know he’s gonna make the right decision every single play that was really fun talking through all of

That and visualizing the way that the uh these matchups work out and I think we don’t give matchups enough uh Credence when talking about basketball because we’ve gotten a custom and it’s it’s been different recently but we’ve grown a custom at least I have and basketball is like the best team wins

Who has the best player best team they’re going to get it done but I do think that we don’t take into account like the point you made about Utah is a point that I about goar and Utah is a point that I haven’t heard made before

And it’s makes sense it’s like we I guess it wasn’t a Utah Point as much as a gobear point it’s like it’s about the decisions we don’t think about basketball bball as a game plan sport nearly as much as we do football and the decisions and the situations and the

Matchups matter a great deal but we’ve gotten accustomed to like hey they got Steph andkd they’re good and it hasn’t worked out that way in the past few years where it’s like we put the best players because we assume the same thing to Clippers and I guess you could say

Injuries but anyway I’m rambling I did want to bring up another question for you and I know I expected Charlie to bring up OKC because I know that’s your team right you think if we take Den out of it OKC is the team everyone can

Handle a pass shoot fun and the one of the things they’re probably the best defense I would say on the west next to a healthy Minnesota yeah yeah next to healthy um Minnesota um so that that checks that box they got SDA who’s a ball handler a

Wing type guy who can make those plays that checks that box and the other box that I think it checks in correct me if I’m wrong but one of the things that I like to look for in playoff teams that I think can make a run is like um I I

Don’t know what to call call it roster flexibility and it’s not necessarily depth as much as is their ability to play in different ways which kind of negates the matchup issues that you might have because you’re comfortable playing a few different ways and I guess my question for you is is that something

That you see in uh the OKC Thunder or is it just that they have a bunch of unique players so I’ve imagined that because they have Chad and because they have SGA and Jaylen Williams and Lou Dort like they’re uniquest players that I imagine that it means that they can play in a

Number of different ways no you’re not imagining anything because this was by Design press is one of the best GMS in the league he’s unbelievable oh yeah LeBron told me that and yeah predicted it 20 years ago look this whole concept as it was explained to me by somebody

Who’s better at it than than I am you know you’re talking about different teams I mean that’s always the fun stuff before the draft like hey what do you think this guy’s going to do what do you think I’m like they took this kid Usman

Jen who I loved it’s because he was 69 and like the second half of the season when he’s playing in the Australian League he was like 69 and running the point and like you could see this light go off in his head where all the Clips

In games from his first half of the Season he looked just completely lost and then he like figured out like oh wait if the defense comes up here then I can pull it away and get a better angle and then get it to all these different

Guys and then it’s like oh the Thunder took him why did the Thunder take him because they envisioned the ceiling for him the best version of him as somebody who can have the ball in his hands and make good decisions but also drive and then develop a shot this is what they’ve

Wanted to do and you’re not imagining anything cuz whether it’s Williams in appreciating everything who is a star like that guy is going to be a star the jump from last year as a rookie to this year is significant he’s big he’s physical he’s athletic in that Kawai way

Where it’s not every time up and down the court but there’s just those those moments where you’re like he just did what um and he’s not afraid of anybody man he goes right at dudes we know about SGA and you know giddy when sga’s been out recently like it’s the best stretch

SL reminder of like who giddy can be who I thought was incredible in that Knicks game that came down to the last shot and then they do have all these other pieces K Wallace comes in he’s terrific Isaiah Joe is a legitimate shot maker who’s actually shown a little bit more to his

Game um kenri Williams comes in and plays the five at times if they didn’t have the other jayen Williams again who we’ve mentioned from Arkansas who I think comes in and plays as off right now uh it is about their I just it’s not about young because when you fail when

You’re young you fail because you’re young and when you fail because you’re old you failed cuz you’re old nobody ever goes hey he failed cuz he’s middle-aged we’ve had young teams be successful in the past and win the whole thing I think like eight of the 10 or

1980s or prior and then you have the Golden State Warriors who in 15 at least showed you that it it can happen so it’s not impossible I just I can’t get past the nights where I feel like Chad has got his handed to him because he’s asked

To just be around the rim against bigger Frontline teams so you you sang the Praises of the front office down there but I can’t let you get out of here without pointing out the fact that they didn’t OKC didn’t make any moves at the trade deadline to improve their roster

Yeah they did the meich trade to bring in hayward’s expiring and then have even more flexibility and you know I think for years I I mean granted they’re they’re certainly more educated what’s that my jokes just aren’t Landing today I was just making a joke oh my

God no I was listening to you in in um in uh build well because it’s been a serious thing it’s a real question that’s a joke who’s doing your material no no no you just you got annoyed with Bill so I was trying to annoy you it’s

Lot of excuses about them because it was like all right I don’t I don’t care about what any of their rankings are because this team is just not together enough like you’re watching you’re like oh what is this the 11th game with all three guys um you know oh okay now

They’ve played like 27 so like what do you do what what stats matter there so this stretch which by the way is the toughest closing stretch that I’ve seen in the NBA in a long time like look at their game from Denver on and the remaining schedule I think at one point

The opponent’s combined winning percentage was like 65% to close the season and the next toughest schedule was like 55% winning percentage so it was a massive massive Gap and I mentioned that San Antonio game because I was like you know if you guys aren’t into this now like why am I going to

Pretend that this switch is going to go on what I think I’ve learned about this sport even though your point is Right Dominique on hey like at the end of the year like oh cool like I was a top three player and they won the title like maybe we’re making this too complicated

Because that’s the norm at least it feels like 80 90% of the titles one of the deck grade or one of the you know one to five best players in the league maybe even higher but when I look at them collectively it’s like so you guys that have never done anything before

Were just going to assume that you guys are going to do it like one of my least favorite basketball teams of all time is the 2018 Celtics and they talked like they had already had three rings in their back pockets and it was like man we still

Think anybody can beat us in seven it’s like well maybe it’ll be five in the second round then uh you know it’s like wait and it’s like no I I need to have seen something from you before to believe in you same thing as the Nets

Like okay yeah there was some Nets runs there with all those guys were’re in the regular season like is this actually going to work is this going to work so I kind of put it in that category and I’d say watching them collectively even though last night’s first half against

New Orleans was incredible and I love Deon Booker I love I wish more guys were like Deon Booker I wish more guys like wanted to go at everybody and it was just about basketball it wasn’t necessarily like a personality defect or anything I I just

Don’t think they get it uh you know they just have so many moments and there were some crazy number that I saw in one of their broadcasts where they were like fourth in defensive ranking in the half court and it kind of REM reminded me of those Harden Houston teams which again

The 18 team was awesome but it was like oh but when we’re in the half court this is our defensive rating and it’s like wow that’s an awesome defensive rating in the half court what about the other numbers that drag you down into the bottom third and I just see a lot of

Plays from Phoenix where I’m like how could you guys who have played this long like keep allowing some of these stupid mistakes to happen closing out on the wrong guy in a one versus two or in transition not finding the Cross Match or just just not looking like a team now

In April like I’m supposed to pick that team against all these other teams that have’ shown some continuity throughout 5 months now it’s just a hard sell and I I feel like that s Antonio game is like haunting me because after that one I’m

Like yeah I don’t I don’t like why am i g to just assume they figure it out because there may be a couple guys on this team that I love yeah um I don’t watch as many games as you but I watched that San Antonio game also and I had the

Rematch right yeah I had when they lost with no Wy with no wmy was was really killed me and it was like a weird experience where it’s like they do amazing things and then you look up and they’re losing or they’re tied it’s like they’re still really good and to your

Point about they had they have to show you something you you spoke to Devin Booker and I felt like was it it was last season’s playoffs and probably a bit in the playoffs before that where I felt like it was all the things that you said we saw Devin Booker seem like come

Of age the way that he was playing on the defensive end last year and I was like this is the guy and I was excited and I believed in them and then we see this team and it’s like it was also the the Nugget series when him and Durant

Were like it was they were two man show like 70 points a game for the defensive stuff more than anything for me from Devin Booker and like he was hitting big shots but it was just on the defensive end of the Court where we were like all

Right this is what it looks like for the best player on a championship team and I know that Durant is great and everything but it was clear to me last year that Devin Booker was like all right this is the guy but we just haven’t seen it I

Don’t know there’s no major point there other than disappointment that we’re not going to get that cuz you’re right we haven’t seen it and it’s not going to come out of nowhere I don’t think Beal is as good as advertised also oh go put up hobby horse sorry like no he puts up

Numbers he’s an extremely talented guy when he gets to kind of that midrange but you know he had to play last night against the Pelicans where you know they’re up big but Pelicans did make a late charge at it there and he ended up with it in the corner and there was
