Jaylen Brown’s best season: Stepping up on defense, and nearing a major milestone | Forsberg’s Four

Jaylen Brown’s best season: Stepping up on defense, and nearing a major milestone | Forsberg’s Four

The forsberg four and of course it’s all about Jaylen who you know look I know there was a lot of consternation about that contract he signed over the summer but Jaylen Brown has responded with his best all-around season of his career he has been fantastic I think he’s tracking

Towards another all NBA birth probably going to be back on that second team based on the way he’s played and here’s four numbers that I love about Jaylen and it starts with 18 pretty popular number in these parts right not just Banner Jaylen ranks 18th in the NBA in

Defensive field goal percentage is actually tied with teammate Derek white he’s holding opponents to 44.6% from the field that’s 2.8% below expected the only player with a better below expectation on the team is his cookies and cream partner christops porzingis Jaylen has been just fantastic defensively this season he clearly made

It a priority we remember back to Media day him talking about wanting to get all defense votes for the entire starting five about him wanting to be on that all defense team and you look at all the talent they got here you’re like wait there’s so much talent how can he

Possibly musle his way in but he’s done it I want to show you a quick graphic here this is the list of eight players the top eight players that he has defended this season or eight of the top nine look at that Anthony Edwards Luca Deon Murray Devon book kawi Leonard Zion

Williamson davan Mitchell Kade Cunningham that’s five Allstars and seven of the eight players that are in the top 25 in scoring in fact Donovan Mitchell he would be the other one on there if he qualified with enough games also among the top possessions he’s defended seum Brunson Lillard Jaylen

Keeps taking on the challenge and he’s been fantastic regardless who who’s on the other side he deserves all defensive votes voters keep him in mind when you’re filling out your ballot even when you’re checking Derek white and Drew holiday and all that the second number 10.3 that is jaylen’s turnover

Percentage this season that’s down 1.1% from last year when everybody was on his case about some some and rightfully so because he did get loose with the ball at times but his assist percentage is up to 17% that’s the second high of his of his career only 2022 was higher this

Season Jaylen has seven games appropriate for his jersey number with 25 points and zero turnovers that is the third most in the NBA only trailing Brunson and Maxi look every season Jaylen goes and comes back with something in his game strengthened and I think it’s clear this year that would

Probably come down to ball handling and the vision like he’s going to set up probably a a a a personal best and assist per game it’s not a high elevation but when he’s taking care of the basketball and maximizing possessions good things happen and you and I just think Jaylen deserves so much

Credit and often showing off that left hand when he’s ball handling and getting to the rim as well number three plus 9.0 that is Boston’s net rating in the 713 minutes that jayen is on the court with Jason off here’s why this matters in past Seasons the Celtics have

Struggled regardless of who’s on the court but especially when it’s just been jayen out there without Jason in fact over the F the previous Four Seasons the Celtics were only plus 1.4 with Jaylen on and Jason off but this year that number 9.0 is only 0.5 off what the Jays

Have done together in 153 minutes Jason Jaylen in fact has a top 10 net rating in the NBA overall his chemistry with christs porzingis especially when those two are the focal point with Jason on the bench has been fantastic and one of the things like Jason’s not going to sit

A ton of minutes in the postseason but when you do you got to be able to keep yourself afloat we see teams like Denver like yic goes to the bench it gets a little dicey jaylen’s been so good this season at kind of keeping this team afloat and it’s another part of his

Development that has really mattered and a big reason why the Celtics are so far ahead of the field our final number I don’t know if it’s going to fit in here 10,000 that’s the point total that Jason Jaylen is approaching this season he will be the 15th Celtic to reach that

Number in fact he’s about nine points away from passing Don Nelson to join a very elite group take a look at this these are the top 14 scorers in Celtics history there’s Jaylen at 9,960 creeping up on everybody else Jason Tatum obviously recently hit that Milestone here’s the thing that jumps

Out to me top 12 guys on that list all their numbers are up in the rafters Jason Jaylen I think they got a chance to get there as well but we sometimes take it for granted how good Jaylen is and how impactful he’s been how long he’s been a part of this now

And how far into the future he could be here and a key piece to it numbers like this kind of hammer home just how good he’s been and I’m telling you keep your eye on Jaylen in this postseason could be key to getting Banner 18 up there

Chris Forsberg is back with another edition of Forsberg’s Four on Celtics Post Up. Chris is breaking down four key improvements to Jaylen’s game that is making this season his best yet.

  2. I love the work that he puts in on the court, but we need to recognize him as one of the only Celtics players that shows up in the neighborhoods of Boston, visits schools, and makes a concerted effort of his own to help the community and build strong relations with the city. He's the epitome of a role model. Love having him on the Celtics.

  3. JB is proving he is worth every cent of that contract. He just entered his prime at 27 years so he will continue to get better over the next 4-5 years. With his work ethic it wouldn’t surprise me if he is one of the best free throw shooters in the league by his 30’s. πŸ’ͺ☘️

  4. While i think the contract is still too much, i agree that this is JBs best season and i love the commitment to defense this year. His off-ball defense has also improved along with minimizing his TOVs.

  5. So many people say that he cannot grow although he is so young. Star players can improve, it’s not just G-League and undrafted players. Yes, he is already a star and yes he can still grow and improve.
