Why doesn’t Luka’s impact match his production?

I always rely on Thinking Basketball’s analysis throughout the years. I guess this is an objective analysis of Luka. Unbiased. Stated his strengths and weaknesses. Luka is unquestionably a floor raiser. Next step for him is to up his offball more so that he can fit with other stars. He and Kai has great chemistry tho, but I believe more complex plays for them will make their lives a lot easier. It’s just that they are damn well good that just a simple high PNR can get things done.

I know this guy is well-respected among the community but he has KG over Dirk. I’m not watching that.

if embiid, jokic, and shae are the ‘impact’ MVPs, i feel like the best any of them would do is also having the mavs chasing 50 wins. so either luka is driving that same impact or more.

and if we go to non mvp superstars, if we replaced luka with tatum or durant or giannis, this team would win something like 40 games.

Role replacement within the roster is the principal component – should have spent more on that, he spent maybe a minute.

The on as well as on-off are primarily dictated by roster construction, role-replacement within it, and rotations.

Mavs could use 70+% of the salary cap on 4 long, tall, tough defenders with okay shooting/finishing but low-to-moderate creation, and play them exclusively together with Luka for a fixed 30min a night. Give the other 18min to rookies and minimum guys (with zero stagger in the lineups). Luka will have a +16 on and a +25 on-off, but the team will lose more games than it does now. Will it make him a better player? No, of course not. But he’ll come out as super impactful in the numbers! (And I love numbers — but numbers need context.)

This is an illustration of why Ben should have spent more time on role replacement within the roster, a roster and rotation ideally designed for some resilience to injuries and winning the most games over the course of the year. All the stars highlighted as the most impactful are the ones whose rosters don’t replace their roles well.

There’s this video [https://youtu.be/f8RhyUzW3t0?si=Ojxk7w7k-hP_5BEA&t=413](https://youtu.be/f8RhyUzW3t0?si=Ojxk7w7k-hP_5BEA&t=413) he did on Luka’s second season where Luka had the best impact metrics in the league, unquestionably Luka is better now than then and the only things that changed are coach, teammates and lineups

Jeez, one loss to the warriors on a road trip, all the bums are out with their pitchforks to the stab the king lol. Whatever man, these bastards will be eating crow and we will be celebrating our championship.

this is not a good video analysis.
Just some vage points why this could be but spend maybe 1 minute at the biggest and most important factor: Roster construction and rotations.
In the last years the mavs rotation are especially tailored to work when Luka sits. The Mavs will have another ballhandler on the field who plays this minutes without Luka mostly with the rest of the starting 5 to be as competitive as possible. And often times they will not play against the best Lineups of the opponent.

On the podcast, the dude with him (Houdek) is always trying to get Ben to shit on Luka because he thinks Luka is vastly overrated.

This leads to overall Luka negativity on an otherwise good podcast.

I think they ranked Luka 8th before the season which is hilarious.

Anyway, hope he shuts them up.

Elephant in the room, Luka is getting fatter day by the day. I am concerned, honestly
