Rooks | Episode 4: Vasa Micic
Shin in the if you can believe it you can achieve the high high no oh no we know that something special is going to be around lamelo Ball Hero made of He’s a rookie folks but he’s not a rookie in terms of experience he is a longtime Euro league bet he’s 30 years of age understands winning originally drafted in 2014 makes his first NBA start almost 10 years later this guy those was how to play he knows how to
Find his teammates and he knows how to put the ball in a position where they can do something with it I mean there awareness you know all the stuff that you can’t teach you know he knows where everybody is on the floor um obviously he’s a terrific passer
Picking role player um so also you know he’s got size he’s big you know some of those passes maybe other guys can see but don’t have the ability to you know make the plays best offensive game so far is Hornet what was working for you
So well on that side of the ball I don’t know just just the rhythm I try to play my game every time as as good as I can uh sometimes it’s not the best way but that’s me I’m trying always to be better I today it was a good day for me and
That’s it so what this about like some questions I respond yeah yeah story The Story of B you know basketball really nothing nothing too crazy okay so I mean start off like that you know you had all those we just said like all those places you played you know pivotal moments big
Moments but how does that compare to your know your first NBA start which was this past Sunday at Toronto yeah I even said that to to Grant uh before the announcement that it’s my first uh game as a starter uh in this age you don’t really see that as when
You are 20 but it’s still a nice feeling like fresh nice feeling but as you said like coming to that point throughout the years where I experienced so many countries and uh places where I where I was trying to find my role and my spot to to get better it was amazing moment
Definitely and um I always say that I don’t think I’m anything special as a player in terms of some unique talents maybe but definitely my story can can be uh small motivation for every player to to understand that kind of everything is possible uh in my country basketball is
The first sport and we are really as as a country famous all over the world as a basketball country with our success and uh for such a small country we are we really have a insane result like just previous World Cup we ended up second and I mean for some people who don’t
Follow basketball it’s maybe not so important but for my country it was was insane results uh we always knew about basketball in my country and my family we as you know we were oriented more to to Ski Sports but once we moved to the city it was it was obvious that I’m
Going to start playing some sports with the ball and I chose basketball and from that moment I really fell in love uh um I really start early professional career at the age of 16 so it was really uncommon for that time and from that moment till now it’s been 14 years that
I’m playing professionally with a lot of experience uh I can say that basketball is for a long time in my blood well uh I know Wasa since our days together with Red Star Belgrade we over you know almost 20 years ago uh he was a young player that joined our youth program I
Was still coaching with red start Belgrade with youth program there and uh his name just uh kept popping in our coaches meetings Monday morning at 11 a.m. V samit did this V samit did that you know and U from the start I was really intrigued about him so wanted to
I wanted to go and see some of his games i’ never coach him that that AG uh directly but we were with the same team and uh from from the start he was showing a lot of lot of uh talent and and uh I’m really happy that he was able
To make such a huge impact and uh such a great career on International Level Playing uh for high level teams in Europe uh winning Euro league being MVP of Euro league um he accomplished a lot so I think he’s coming to NBA the right time as a mature player and uh somebody
Who has to bring a lot uh to to any NBA team I thought that work EIC is common for every professional player honestly since I started but then I realized it’s not uh and I I found that gap for myself to to to help me reaching My Level where
I’m now it’s really easy to say but it’s not easy to do so I think this is what defined me as a player beside my some skills cuz no matter where I am with the team I I was in the team that they were barely succeed in the season or like
Successful in the season so but still I was always motivated I faced to many small injuries that kind of could push me back a little bit but then I would just keep keep working more so all overall I think this is something that is always in my hands and that’s how I
Treat work uh extra work cuz everything else is it’s in God hands let’s say so I try to do everything what is in my hands every day and then we’ll see what’s the outcome but so far I’ve been I was successful with my outcomes for other people but what really drives me it’s
That daily daily routine and Daily Success for myself I win two backtack year League championships you know there and MVPs like can you just walk us through what that time spent for people who aren’t aware of your time spent there that was my best part of career so
Far I can tell also with other experiences as well but best in terms of the the the feeling generally cuz I was really happy for the 5 years over there and uh I went there for just one year honestly I sign one year deal and then I
Spent 5 years and it shows how much I love everything there and I appreciate every moment there uh titles came really unexpected in terms of we didn’t come there as a team to to know that we’re going to win we just came as a completely new group of guys with a lot
Of enthusiasm and spirit to compete and then from the very first year we we felt that we are capable of big things we ended up second in Euro league in our first season which was a great surprise and then year later we we were by far the best team but unfortunately Co
Stopped the season and that year was one of the best season I watched next to the player like Shane Lin he was really playing so well and then the year later we finally won that first title uh with amazing amazing success for our team and then the year later again another title
So really amazing time amazing achievements and uh of course for people in USA it’s not so well known but for me as a European for for the guy who been watching Euro league for from early age it was a really dream come true and um I mean I still remember every single
Moment from that time really happy that I receive received this opportunity from the team and uh uh it’s really great feeling when you are part of anything like even bad parts but you are the one who experienced that so that’s what I’m trying now to experience good and bad parts and learn
From that and of course as as long as I can I can play in NBA would be would be great because I didn’t come really here to just say that I’m here it’s I already said that many times but it’s a really fact right now when I experience time on
The court I can tell that yeah I’m very happy that I made decision Last Summer
