Postgame Interview: Erik Spoelstra

Postgame Interview: Erik Spoelstra

From eight points up early in the fourth quarter what happened the rest of the way where and how did it go sideways I mean this is um you know we’re right next to each other in the standing so that’s what games are going to be like

Back and forth back and forth back and forth um we’re going to go and run they’ll go and run and just keep on going that way and they made the final run you know that’s that’s what’s disappointing about this in the last you know three minutes they made more of the

Plays you know particularly defensively they uh forced you know some turnovers jammed us up um either jump balls uh turnovers or um just were not getting you know clean looks um and we were not able to do the same you know for them it was tough to say because there

Wasn’t a ton of half court possessions that they had um you know they had some easy ones um in the open court and and they just they finished it out and um we had opportunities you know I felt like when we got up eight you know we had

Opportunities to get it to 10 or 12 you know a couple fast breaks um that led to turnovers but you know that that’s going to happen um you know it was more how we we couldn’t generate enough good looks uh in our half court offense down the stretch

Um because it was a pretty uh a tough defensive game both ways um all the way way through couldn’t really tell that something happened to Terry on that last play yeah he I think bang knees you know we’ll just have to see how he feels when

We get on to Houston he says he feels fine you know you just you don’t want to take anybody for the word until we get to Houston see each other tomorrow morning he’s tough um you know I hit that big three you know down the stretch um but we’ll we’ll see

Clearly uh it looked like it pushing the pace was a intentional thing tonight just from the word go even when the half court wasn’t working how much was that part of the game plan to try and get up the court before it’s going to be was it

Getting back I would say it was consistent for both teams right you know both teams were defending at a high level in the half court uh I don’t know what the bus perur possession for half court for either team you know yeah so both teams uh you know

Understand that and uh if you can find any kind of easy Basket in a game like this you’re you’re trying to you know manufacture things off deflection steals blocks uh long rebounds uh anything to to get some easy relief points um and you know we’re able to do it we

Also had some miscues on those that uh you know could have pushed us to double double digit you know leads and then you know in the middle of the fourth quarter I thought we generated some good shots we just missed some open threes that also could have pushed us you know to 10

12o lead uh and that may have changed the complexion of things but you know this is this is the game of basketball you know sometimes you miss those and then you have to find a different way to win and we weren’t we weren’t able to do

That I I thought we were going to you know at the end and I know that’s probably part of the question is you call timeout not call time out I’m I’m fine with all of that down the stretch uh I felt like we were going to get a

Good look there with the stop a better look than if we would have called the timeout and Jimmy’s look was clean that would have that would have been a lot different you know on a side of bounds I feel uh we got an offensive rebound on it that’s potentially a time I could

Have called a timeout um but I’ve seen H make those kind of plays and then also I just love those kickouts for a three would loved to walk off uh at that point it just didn’t happen couple games now for Kevin obviously this one in a loss but what

Have you thought about what he’s been able to provide in these two games back how could you not love what Kevin Love brought to the game tonight is his passion energy inspiration diving on the floor banged his head scraped up his elbow everything else he was the human

Bruise tonight uh he was all over the place um that was really inspiring and you know I think those stretches uh when he was out there you felt like all right we’re going to we’re going to take this to the win um that’s what makes it disappointing but you know that’s that’s

This game and uh we’ll we’ll lick our wounds uh tonight um get on to Houston and figure this out you know that we know that they’ll be waiting for us and and they’re they’re in a competitive push as well and you just have to love how um intense and competitive these games are

You know for regular season games all right thank you

  1. I'm sick of the same old bullshit from Spo, downplaying the fact that we've had the same needless struggles for two seasons. Stop pretending we have enough and we're learning from our mistakes. We don't learn, we don't play with any heart or urgency. Our "culture" is choking away games the same way night after night.
