Coach Brown & De’Aaron Fox | Postgame Pressers 4.4.24

I got to do a I got to figure something out I got to do a better job helping my team out uh with drawing fouls or gamesmanship because I thought we did a nice job of getting into the paint a couple of times and we got guys lifted

But when you get a guy lifted in the air like Jaylen does you just got to jump into his body and see if you can get to the free throw line because our last two losses against Dallas uh they shot 33 free throws to our 12 Luca had 14 free throw attempts

And similar to the night you know they uh New York had 29 free throw attempts to 12 and um and Jaylen had 10 of them so you know we have to do a better job in with our gamesmanship especially when we’re driving to the rim and we get a guy

Lifted you know right now I I I’m assuming this is why we’re not getting any calls or not getting as many as I feel like we should when we get guys lifted we’re taking tough fadeaway shots so our gamesmanship has to be better to get us to the free throw

Line especially against the better teams so I I I thought uh it’s something that I have to help him with and we have to do a better job of um the second thing is uh you know on the road against a good team you got to take care of the

Basketball and you know we could talk to we could talk about it until we’re bleue in the face when you put that thing on the floor they’re coming and if you feel a second body if you don’t just make the simple play just just get off of it

You’re going to turn it over and they had 19 fast break points but a lot of it was off our turnovers we tried to dribble in a crowd we tried to spin and make a move when we know bodies are coming instead of just picking it up

Being strong with it and hitting the first open guy but you know you’re going to be hard pressed to beat a team like the Knicks in their building with 28 points off your 16 turnovers and a lot of them were just exactly what I said was we drove into traffic and bodies

Came and we didn’t uh get off the ball uh they also were uh due to the fact that we turned down so many open threes and we tried to drive the ball when we drove the ball we tried to make these little shovel passes to guys inside the

Paint and every time we made a shovel pass it was a turnover and they’re going the other way and uh we one of my my biggest things I keep telling our guys if you’re open Let it Fly and I’m disappointed because the shots we turned down they were their defense was still

Closing out and they close out hard and so yeah we can get around them but as soon as you get around them we talk about this team doing this is the exact same thing happened to us at home they did this whether it’s a post up or a

Drive and we tried to force these passes or they just deflected the ball and you got to play off of two you got to think to spray the ball we should have had we should have taken over 50 threes tonight and we took uh what is it 42 we took 42 threes

And that wasn’t enough we shot 43 42% from the three-point line and that wasn’t enough against this team for us the way we play we got to shoot 50 plus threes and that means we got to take care of the ball drive it feel a second

Guy coming and just get off of it and let the dominoes fall from there but we’re not going to be able to go make plays thinking we’re going to drive it and make the assist or think we’re going to drive it and power through two or

Three guys and score it uh so the the turnovers and our inability to shoot the ball when we’re open from the three-point line which caused us to take worse shots uh in my opinion hurt us with with with with Jaylen I mean he scored 101 won pretty easy tonight so we

Had to double team him and you know to his credit he just hit hit the open guy uh right away he didn’t try to force it he didn’t do anything crazy he just got off the ball and I I got to give Josh Hart credit because he he made plays he

Made the right he hit some tough shots but he made the right passes he scored bucket and so when you have a great player like uh Jaylen and you got to double team him uh you’re expecting somebody else to beat us and that’s somebody else tonight at least on the

Offense end of the floor I again I thought we hurt ourselves by turning it over too much and passing up open shots but uh um you got to give uh Josh credit because uh he made tough play after tough play after tough play uh in the paint yeah

If you think about it how many threes did we hit early on we were just we were letting that thing fly and you know we weren’t driving in the paint and trying to make these Shuffle passes we weren’t trying to power through two or three guys and

Fin we were taking what they gave us and the game was real simple boom open shoot it nobody hesitated but as the game went along chis I mean we passed up open shot after open shot after open shot and then we try to drive in the traffic and every

Time we drove into traffic and you know try to power through guys or they spun they’re like this and so we made the game harder on ourselves as it went along and because they’re a good defensive team it’s not like they’re going to come out and play soft to start

Tim’s not going to let that happen and the players they have they’re they’re not going to let that happen they’re going to play the behinds off but you we have to be disciplined to play a certain way for 48 minutes and we didn’t do it so now you start passing up those shots

And the shots become more difficult they turn it over and they get easy buckets you know and next thing you know their confidence starts to go like this and that’s a product of not consistently doing what we did to start the game make moving it easy to the open

Guy and if you’re open Let it Fly and it’s a product of that that’s caused uh them to gain that confidence defensively and us to start missing shots late when we were open because we still had some open looks but by then you know being up 21 and good team at

Home they come back now the shots a little bit harder we a little bit tighter you know so you give them credit but man I tell you what they it’s the same story as as at home good how are you doing I I apologize but I don’t really

Know Philip petrusev is that am I saying it right petrusev I don’t really know his game I don’t I don’t want I don’t watch a lot over there during the season so that would be a question for like our Scouts and our GM uh but uh I think SAS

Is 100% you know um it’s been I don’t know seven weeks seven eight weeks since he sprained his ankle and and they said his injury would be four to six weeks so I I I think he’s 100% right now from now uh you know he was you know

We had multiple guys turn down open looks uh during during the course of the game and you know as good as he shoots the ball if he’s open he’s got to let it fly he he’s he can’t he can’t hesitate he can’t think the game because 24

Seconds goes fast and if you hesitate when you’re open especially as good as shooter as he is uh usually it results in a worse shot for us so I I expect him to shoot the ball when he’s open keep trying to move and run the floor and transition and then just be solid

Defensively thank you yeah no I mean it was tough because we we didn’t Blitz him the whole game and times we played him straight up I mean he either got to the free throw line or he scored it and I mean he he’s like his mental and physical toughness is

Extraordinary for a guard you can hit him knock him down foul him and he’s going to keep coming and he’s going to play through you he’s not shying away from contact at all so the shots that he takes are are some of them are tough but

He gets to his spot he knows the shots he can make and he gets to his spots with because he’s forceful mentally and physically and he’s strong and so when you you know we tried to play him one-on-one and he got there real easy

And scored it so only thing to do is to double team and there’s a couple of ways to do it you can double team him early uh you can double team him in the pick and roll um or you can switch and then double team them because again they’re

Not doing anything crazy they’re just saying okay hey let’s bring this match up in it let’s play pick and roll and and play from there and the reality of it is they just kept the game simple if he felt like he was getting double team

He tried to get the ball to the open guy as soon as possible there was nothing tricky or anything and and when that happens if that guy is capable of making plays then know you’re going to be in trouble you know use just to pick your

Poison but the 60 points in the paint was a product of that Josh I don’t think Josh made a three or I don’t even know if he I don’t even he didn’t even take a three so um everything he scored was in the paint so I I man I give Brunson a

Ton of credit first and then Josh a ton of credit because he played to his strengths and and he made play that the the the second way that they got points in the paint was off our turnovers in transition you know we’re turning the ball over and they’re they’re they’re

Getting layups and transition because uh because of our turnovers and their numbers Advantage no W it’s 100% we we’re we’re still in the hunt and you know you you what you got to do is you hopefully you analyze the game you look at it you

Learn from it you grow from it and you try to limit the mistakes that you made previously um but the the the tough one for me like I said is it was the same formula in our last game versus Knicks we passed up open shots and we didn’t

Get off the ball you know and when you play a team a second time after getting beat the first time uh you hope that you could do a better job in those areas and and if you do you live with the results but I don’t think we did a great job in

Th those are uh open shots trying to drive and make plays or trying to power through two or three guys and and and it and it hurt us I thought tonight but uh it’s last thing I said to the guys I said hey uh you give Josh Hart credit you give

Brunson credit the Knicks tibs tibs did a better job than I did tonight so you give them credit but we got to get ready for tomorrow no I don’t I don’t ask about you know that type of stuff they’ll tell me when a guy when a guy’s ready I just

Try to focus on it whoever’s ready to go think led to the game taking such a drastic swing after about Midway in the second quarter uh I just think defensively we weren’t getting stops um I mean outside of the first quarter they scored 30 over 30 points in in every

Quarter and uh I mean we weren we weren’t good defensively Mike talk to us about um gamesmanship regarding getting to the free throw line that he needs to do something maybe to to try to get you guys to I don’t know embellish a little

Bit more do what you can to to get calls I mean where where are you at in terms of your need to do that or you know teammates need to do that so you know you don’t see a disparity at the free throw line like you saw tonight if you

Get grabbed call the foul I don’t I don’t really um the reason I don’t like doing it is because say you’re trying to get a call now you’re not focused on making the shot now if they don’t call the call you’re probably not making a shot so um

I’ve always been a Believer and you go and you try to make the shot if they call the foul they call it if they don’t is what it is but I mean if they see a foul like we got guys getting hugged going to the basket as clear as day and

They don’t call it so this is what it is and in terms of the shot selection to Mike also mentioned that you guys probably could have taken even more threes than the 42 you did how did you feel about the shots that you guys were getting and and were too many you know

Pass yeah I mean I think we pretty much only even got to that number because we’re down 10 and we’re trying to come back but um there are times where we are passing up good shots um and you know saying you pass up a good shot like there’s unless

You’re giving up a good shot for a great shot if you pass up you know what could be the best shot of The Possession It usually turns out to be a bad possession how important is it for y as a group to kind of just lock in and look past this

Game and focus on the next upcoming SL of games CU you know next upcoming schedule just as important as this one was tonight yeah for sure I mean with the way that you know our conference is I mean you could win one or two games

And be in six you could lose one or two games and be in ninth so um obviously I think we let one get away but you know we have to be focused on tomorrow what are what are the challenges that that that just make jayen unson unique to to

Go against overall I mean I think his shot-making ability his footwork craftiness um obviously he’s not the tallest guy but um he’s a he’s a built guy so he puts his shoulder into you um he creates space he creates contact and um I mean he’s a tough guy to stay in

Front of and then you know when you do keep him in front front um he’s a great shot maker so um you know you know a lot of our goal is try to get get the ball out of his hands and and Josh har made plays

  1. Bro the traps the kings were sending at Brunson tonight were HORRIBLE. I've seen my dog run for a treat with more effort

  2. Sabons can have 1000 straight doubledoubles but he still not a winner. He’s a liability in defense when will coach realize that.

  3. Yeah this game was like given up on.. players just gave up.. the beginning of the end .. people the kings were paid to lose last night..

  4. I thought the Kings got a lot of no calls or a bad whistle at the most inopportune times. It's hard to win when the refs are against you.

  5. Cry more. Son was dancing and giggling in the first half.. and the team took their foot off the gas.

You were up 20+ and lost by double digits. They tried to force hart to score instead of brunson and hart gave them 30… you got outplayed.

  6. “I gotta figure something , I gotta do better helping my team out”. Say what ever you want to say Mike Brown. Your not even helping the team

  7. I want to see everyone sweating in practice. When the Kings step off the plane the next day, they need to get in the gym from 7:00 AM-5:00 PM no breaks for them. Working on free throws, three points, shoot 50+ threes.

You need to push them very hard to their ability. Fire Monty Mcnaire he’s the worst GM for Sacramento

  8. Why keep doubling brunson and leave the 3s wide open for them though? Just let brunson cook for a 2 in the paint. 3 is more than 2 and it let them back in the game.

  9. I told y'all. The team should of kept metu. I was right. He is a lob threat, runs the floor well, and can actually trap the other teams guard and recover in half court sets.
