  1. Honestly a great owner. We’ve never really had the worry that the team would leave Indiana, and we won’t be stressing until what, 2040-something?

Him agreeing to let Pritch and Buchanan blow it up and build around Tyrese was icing on the cake, and kind of erased his previous stance on building the team. Thankful to have him

  2. Absolutely deserved. We like to complain about certain aspects his tenure, but when you look at how sports ownership often works he’s one of the most solid stewards of a pro team in recent history. The Pacers have been consistently decent to good since he bought the team with a defined culture of team building that fits our region well. We have no worries about the team leaving Indy and he’s been pretty much free of major controversies. IMO this is the type of sports ownership I prefer.

In contrast look at the Irsay’s Colts. Robert was an unmitigated disaster even though he did get us an NFL team. Jim clearly cares about the team and seems to have a good heart, but he can’t keep his foot out of his mouth and his father’s addiction demons have been passed down. The Irsay’s aren’t nearly the worst pro owners, but that’s what a much less stable ownership situation looks like compared to what Herb Simon has with the Pacers.
