Kyrie Irving said he has this meme in his phone of ESPN giving the Dallas Mavericks a “D” after trading for him.

“I’ve got a meme in my photos as you know that professional athletes love memes that the media puts out. ESPN gave us a grade D for the trade of me coming here. I think us clinching a playoff spot and putting ourselves in a great position definitely answers some of those questions that were asked last season by some of the naysayers and all of that stuff. It’s a great moment to again answer those questions and succeed in clinching a playoff spot.”

It’s a D trade alright, this trade finally put the D back in Dallas and now they bout to fuck up the league

I think you can somewhat forgive the media for being dumbasses and giving PJ/Gaff D- because they aren’t big names, but a D for Kyrie? Everyone on the fucking planet knows what Kyrie can do. 8 time AS. NBA champion. Still firmly in his prime. There were two major questions: could he stay on the court because he’d had issues 3 of the last 4 seasons, and could Dallas resign him. Two seconds and a first + two solid rotation players was a perfectly fair price given those concerns.

B-/C+ is the absolute floor for a Kyrie trade. It shows what a joke some of the writers at ESPN are.

Glad he’s using it for bulletin board material.

We just call every image on social media a meme now?

  4. i mean they were kinda right since we missed the playoffs last season, and we were 4th before kyrie’s 1st game

I was skeptical of both trades and trended closer to ESPN’s score.

    And I was wrong.

I thought Kyrie was too old to be a part of a longterm core, not to mention all the vaccine/off court weirdness. The pick we gave is definitely after Kyrie will be in decline if he is even still here. And last summer we didn’t know if he would stay either or if his contract would be reasonable. He and Luka’s game was too redundant as both guys needed the ball in their hands and I didn’t think we could possibly be a good defense with both here. If he had walked last summer after a team EOY stumble, a D would have been perfectly appropriate.

As for PJ and Gafford, I was not a fan of having given away most of the rest of our future draft picks when neither counted as an elite starter. Always liked Gafford as a target but thought he was too redundant with Lively’s skillset to where we don’t maximize either guy (thankful we have him right now for sure.) PJ’s shooting has been as inconsistent as we expected, but his defense has been way above my expectations (given how poorly he rated on that end in Charlotte.) I thought we were better but gave up too much.

The results speak for themselves, just presenting why being underwhelmed was a reasonable thought at the time. Sometimes chemistry is not as easy to calculate as looking at advanced or previous team stats, and all three guys seem to have found a good home.

  6. Even for ESPN levels Kevin Peltons BBIQ is garbage.
