Comparisons with past players are never perfect, and they don't even play the same position. But I finally figured out who Maxey reminds me the most of–James Worthy.
Worthy doesn't get recognized now like he should, but for the Showtime Laker's last championship, Kareem was no longer the dominator he used to be, and Worthy won the Finals MVP. He deserved it.
Whenever it is that the 76ers make a real run in the playoffs, here's something that will surprise no one–in one of those playoff series, Maxey will be the MVP. And given that Nick Nurse is now the coach, and given that they have made a concerted effort to build a team around Embiid that makes perfect sense, I don't think that the 76ers playoff past matters this year. It ain't just Joel's team any more. It's Joel/Mad Max, and they have most of the right pieces around them that they need.
I don't know what's up with the Bucks, but even before Griffin got fired, watching them was often very uncomfortable. And I don't mean that on the basketball level of pieces not fitting, or missing Jrue, although those were obvious issues. I just mean, nothing felt right. And the problem has to be coming from the top down. Now I don't know if the top is the organization owners/GM, or if the top is Giannis, but that's where the problem is.
I like making fun of Doc but I don't think any coach that was actually available would have done any better. He did have the team playing hard for a while, but then they just went back to their old ways.
