One thing that never gets mentioned when people talk about AK not wanting to start a rebuild is that rebuilds are the most dangerous time for a Front Office. Even if they get the green light from the owner it's still more likely that a GM and President will lose their job after 3 or 4 seasons of under 30 wins than a 3 or 4 seasons of being a few games under .500. Like even if Jerry was the kind of owner who would fire guys for under performing he's not going to look at the Bulls right now and think "this is going to cost jobs." Certainly he wouldn't fire the top positions. But if this team was the 13th or 14th seed for two or three years in a row that's going to be a point where a lot of owners are going to fire guys, even if it was a planned tear down and rebuild.
AKME might honestly just not want to get fired trying to rebuild the team compared to being more or less safe while maintaining a play-in level team.

He's already turned down Kentucky twice, we don't want him. He's been away from college ball too long and has zero experience with NIL. Kentucky is not a place to go relearn, there are better options out there for us now.
Donovan was such a great college coach and coached at Kentucky in the 90s so if Kentucky can’t get Hurley or oats, it’ll be Donovan

KY is too good to hire a coach who needs superior talent to win. You don’t want Noah or Anthony Davis’s former coach. You don’t want Durant’s former coach. KY wants a guy who wins with any talent. They want the next Dan Hurley or Jay Wright.
Some coaches are just better college coaches than pro. Saban wasn't good at Miami. Big blue Nation would be happy to have Billy

I hope he does get hired. I want a better coach for this team. We need a coach who'll focus more on developing the young players and bring grit and grind to the team. Who that is based who's available I don't know but that's my preference.

As a lifelong UK fan, after we got rid of Tubby, I wanted Billy, then we got rid of Gillespie, I wanted Billy. But, things didn't line up. Now that Cal has moved on, things have kind of lined up to allow Billy to come to the Cats. I really like the Bulls and want them to win, but Billy would really fit perfectly at UK.
