The Philadelphia 76ers signed Jeff Dowtin to a two-year deal, which includes a team option for the 2024-25 season, league sources told @hoopshype. Sixers coach Nick Nurse previously coached Dowtin with the Toronto Raptors and they’ve since reunited in Philadelphia.

Why not Ricky who has been much more impressive than this guy?

No fucking clue but I’ll be pissed if Ricky isn’t on the playoff roster. He’s earned it.
Cause this doesn’t impact sixers off season cap plan at all.
Is there a deadline for signing Ricky for playoff purposes?
I like Dowtin and think he’s solid but Ricky is a stud. Gotta get him a contract.
My copium is that they want to sign Ricky to a longer deal than the 2 year maximum that is allowed when converting a 2-Way contract to standard using the minimum exception (no cap room, so no other way to sign him).
They had to do this with Dowtin to put a 15th man on the roster for extremely cheap. If you wait until the offseason with Ricky, he can be signed to whatever contract they want—probably something like 4 years with 2 or 3 of those years non-guaranteed at just above the minimum salary.
They probably chose Dowtin to convert because of experience, which is understandable even though Ricky has had some nice flashes of good play and is a bigger body. But Morey has to have longer-term plans for Ricky based on what we’ve seen this year.
Would Ricky realistically see any playoff minutes? He’s great in flashes but if we’re depending on him to meaningfully contribute, we’re probably not going very far.
They need a 15th guy, he’s more proven than RC4, and next year is a team option so it’s just straight up no downside.
I like Ricky, too. I hope they sign him and have been saying that for a bit. But this doesn’t bother me.
SIGN RICKY. 0 reason not to give him AT LEAST. a one year!!!!!! ridiculous it didn’t get done a month ago!
As a fellow URI alum I approve. Dowtin is reliable and will always give the effort, he’s traveled around quite a bit so it’s nice to actually seem him get a landing spot.
Ricky council IV is gonna be on the sixers next season
Probably guard depth as emergency insurance with how bad Hield/Payne have been the last couple games, how long Melton’s back was injured and how old Lowry is.
