Couldn’t agree more. Castle is a playmaker with a strong on-ball defense. We desperately need playmakers, shooters, and defenders. He checks 2 of those boxes.

Love me some castle. He has adapted so well to UConn and has a lot more junk in his game then he regularly gets to show. I have moved him all the way up to number 2 on my big board and he will probably stay there till draft night.

Only non-shooter at guard I’m taking is Topic!

If the spurs pick castle I’ll be happy that day

  5. He looks quite slow. How would you comepare him to Wesley? Will he be an upgrade +size +strength but -speed?

With raps pick sure. I would rather Sheppard coz he’s got all the parts we like of castle, topic, Dillingham. Good passing (if not as good as topic), solid defense (if not as good as castle) and great shooting (just slower release than Dillingham)

  7. I do really like Castle to add perimeter defense and some playmaking. I love his handles too. But the thing about Castle is, if we draft him, it’s imperative that we trade for a scoring point guard in the off-season like Garland or Young to compliment him. We need defense, but we also need scoring just as badly.

We can’t add another bad 3 point shooter because of their defense without helping our spacing first. Those Wemby double teams are getting out of control lately, and he seriously needs more spacing around him REALLY soon or next season is gonna be another 20 win season, third year in a row.

TLDR: Yes I’m all in on Castle, but we gotta trade for a scorer if we draft him.

  8. I’d be happy with pretty much everyone but Reed Sarr or Risacher with our pick

Would love this, I think his shooting will improve and he’s an unselfish player who plays hard. Think he’s a great fit for the spurs.

I don’t really like the Castle fit unless he’s bigger than he looks.

Castle looks like he’s 6’5ish. Maybe a hair taller than Devin. This makes him a little short to play wing. He absolutely doesn’t have the playmaking or shot to play point guard right now(unless he develops a ton over the next few years, but I’m not sure PATFO, fans, or Wemby would have the patience to try this).

If we draft Castle we still need a lead playmaker/ball handler. These guys are almost always shorter. This would leave us with Wemby and 3 guys 6’5 and under, which is an insanely small lineup.

Imagine that lineup against Denver. Castle takes Murray, Wemby takes Jokic, Vassell and Point Guard are forced to take two of Gordon, KCP, and MPJ. We’d be eaten alive.

Castle’s shot is probably going to take some work. But unless he measures taller than he looks (and can solidly play the 3. So over 6’6), I don’t know how you run a lineup with two shooting guards and a center who aren’t primary playmakers unless you can find a wing who can do it, and those are incredibly valuable/rare.

Interesting article. Thanks for sharing! I like his size and work ethic. I’m not worried about his speed if he’s skilled. Skills matter much more than athleticism (example, SGA and Luka)
