  1. that probably gets called a foul if he wasn’t defending with 5 fouls

  2. HouseMassive4507

To be fair, Brooks had a really good game on both end of floor.

  3. downinCarolina

“He wont respect me until i give him 40”

  4. attorneyatslaw

Kyrie has a big smile when he loses him on the spin.

  5. Ill-Ad-5709

He should get And-1 for this, just for humiliating his opponent. And it should become an NBA rule! And-1 anyone?

  6. Ill-Ad-5709

I was doing Hardy’s steps while Kyrie was cooking… im still doing it!

  7. MVPhurricane

man the slight hesi as he crosses over sells it sooo well to set up the spin. insane.

  8. lilsebass

Brooks didn’t even do _that_ bad of a job here. Kyrie and his handles are unstoppable.

  9. A_MASSIVE_PERVERT

Dillon Brooks got embarrassed a couple of times but he also played probably his best game of the season against us. MF couldn’t miss from 3.

i like how in the 4th and in OT luka would give the ball to kyrie on most of the possessions so he could cook

  11. So Mavs have two unguardable players. Can’t wait for the west playoffs.

  12. fredlikefreddy

I appreciate brooks as someone who is never the most skilled on the court in a pickup setting….. but man do I love watching his ass get cooked

  13. feedmaster

This is who Dallas has now when Luka rests. There’s no excuses this year. Luka has help.

  14. Kyrie’s dribbles and footwork ar just beautiful to watch.

  15. Big_Championship1291

To be fair Brooks had a good game too. He has moving the offense. Mf couldn’t miss a 3

  16. augustcero

midair body and hip check? that’s and1 right there.

  17. It’s not all about speed kids. That stop and change of phase is nasty.

  18. Bloody_Corndog

being put in ISO against Kyrie has to be every defender’s nightmare in the NBA.

This game had so many feels for Dillon. He probably had a personal top 3 all time offensive game but also got torched repeatedly and notably by both Ky and Luka. He and Luka were going back and forth with the smack talk but it seemed respectful and they even cracked a few smiles. Overall i think my respect for Dillon grew a little in this game. Goons are generally the most hated nba players but as goons go I guess DB is alright

Brooks had 5 fouls so he couldn’t really play up.

Not saying that Kyrie isn’t a handles God, just pointing why a team would try and iso on a top 1v1 defender.

  21. I enjoy tooling on Dillon Brooks as much as the next guy, but I don’t even think he did a particularly bad job here. Kai would blow by like 80%+ of defenders with that first move and this whole clip barely be 2 seconds long.

Brooks guarded the first couple moves pretty well, but that just gave Kyrie more time to show off his handles so it looks like he’s cooking him longer. Obviously he got busted wide open at the end, but it feels like roasting a dude for getting posterized when in reality they were the only player on their team in position and willing to even attempt a block.

Kyrie is the last person I’d ever want to defend one on one. Deepest bag in the history of the game.

  23. withurwife

Cooking with Kyrie on the Food Network 7pm ET/6pm CT

  24. Derriosgaming

Love him or hate him. Kyrie is a phenomenal basketball player

  25. sendmedesinudes

Tbf no one can keep up with Kyrie when he is cooking

  26. Imnotsmallimfunsized

Even had the flop at the end… sigh modern nba.

  27. Dymatizeee

That was pretty good defense imo. Kyrie got fouled too

Poor weak side defense from Jalen Green.

He should be lower, closer to the baseline than Kleber so that he can see the ball, his man, and prevent the backdoor cut at the same time.

Just as Green turns his head, Kyrie performs the spin and Green is nowhere in a position to help.

Green should also be a step closer to the paint, maybe a stride away so he can dig on Kyrie.

He should communicate this with Jabari Smith so that in case PJ Washington sets a down screen onto Green to free Kleber to flare to the right wing then they can switch that as well.

Green was the key there to help against Kyrie.

Cam Whimore would have the same responsibility on the opposite side in case Irving continued going left but Whitmore is also out of position as he should be lower to the baseline as well because if Hardaway Jr. cuts backdoor and Doncic shifts to the lower left wing or to the corner, that’s an easy pass for Irving to either the backdoor cutter or for a wing three.

You’ve got to prevent backdoor cuts in this league which means the helper and more importantly the back side defender must know their role.

If Irving goes left into the paint, Whitemore is the helper, Jabari Smith is the back side defender, and Van Vleet obviously rotates to the strong corner gap against Hardaway Jr. and Doncic while Jalen Green is responsible for being in the weak side gap between Kleber and Washington.

Here, with Kyrie going right, Jalen Green is the main helper and Whitmore is the backside defender.

Green did not do his job.

At some time, it’s all about effort and defensive recognition and comprehension though as Van Vleet, Brooks, or the coaching staff shouldn’t need to relay the defensive assignments to the young players, the players on the floor should be communicating with one another and know what to do.
