I hate this mentality in any sport. There’s a reason why Kerr extended to match Curry’s time. He gone…the minute Steph retires (because I really doubt he plays elsewhere). Kerr is probably done coaching also. He’s going out on top and won’t give AF if he leaves with the house on fire.
With that said, this is a short-term mentality and shouldn’t be the aim. If it is, Dubs are mid for 5-10 years. If it isn’t and you let Klay walk, move Draymond (unlikely but non-zero chance) then you aren’t cash strapped. We need to develop Kuminga as a desirable #2 and attract one star in FA in addition to drafting well. By the time Steph is in a 6th man role or becomes 3rd-4th option, you have a nice squad and a Curry superstar sized cap space for a #1-2 FA or draft pick Max deal post-retirement.
Nothing last forever and this team clearly needs a refresh.
