Rested all the starters and 2 of their best bench players. Clippers were basically BEGGING the suns to win, and they barely pulled it off. This team has no heart or effort. Just embarrassing
Effort is an issue at times but I just think their other issue is perimeter defense against agile and skilled guards.
It's literally what every team that has embarrassed the suns has in common.
People say this team has no identity but I disagree.
It's pretty clear to me that they are a high TO team that falls into iso play for stretches and they process the game pretty slowly compared to other teams.
When they face slower footed teams like the Lakers, nuggets, Minnesota, Pelicans, and Cleveland they can stay in front of their man but when they face heavy perimeter teams with guard play they just can't keep up.
This is a roster construction issue.
I didn't like the Beal trade or the Nurkic trade exactly because of what having 3 perimeter guards would look like on defense on top of a center that can't finish and has low mobility.
I'm not sure if you know this but the nets last year were a top 5 defense with KD, Royce, Claxton, Kyrie, Harris, Yuta, and Seth.
The difference between that team and this team is that it was extremely switchable. They literally switched 90% of screens.
Kd and Claxton were amazing together In the post and Claxton has the ability to go out to the three point line and recover to defend the paint. Not to mention he can cover more area vertically
Nurkic can't do that.
The perimeter defenders on this team are not good enough to keep the faster guys in front of them so it doesn't help Nurkic either and everything falls apart.
I don't think it's an effort thing as much as it is a athletic/length disadvantage with a bit of Low IQ and processing speed.
That low IQ/processing speed is what people mistake with low effort.
If we are being honest the defense has been overall solid. They are around #13 in the league. Which was slightly better than expected before the season started.
The clippers only scored 105 point yesterday and the suns still lost.
That's not a defensive issue.
This team was built to score 120+. And they often struggle to get 105 when they lose.
So it's really the offense that has been lagging behind against these perimeter teams .
This team should be able to keep up with OKC, Dallas, Sacramento when it comes to scoring but they often fall behind.
That's where the TO and iso ball become an issue.
If this team was on offense what the people envisioned the defense would be fine. The issue is it's not and with this level of offense they really do need more of a top 5 defense to win

Agree with a lot of the points made here. I think the people who have to take accountability first and foremost are Ishbia and Jones for putting together such a flawed team. When will they start facing criticism? Getting rid of a true point gaurd along with adding an aging non-leader and hiring a defensive minded coach who never really fit were bad moves right from the start.
Itās not fun to watch but not giving up your playoff strategy and taking Ls bc of it is alright. Hopefully this is the case and the suns come prepared for their playoff match ups

They barely beat the Clippers without their star players,you can literally tell by their body languages that they lack of chemistry and Frank Vogel hasn't been the guy…..they'll be bounced early coming this playoff!!!!!
