Predictions: Which Play-in Teams Will Make First Round Upsets

In this clip from Monday’s Old Man and the Three Things, JJ Redick is joined by Nekias Duncan and Steve Jones Jr. of The Dunker Spot to discuss which possible play-in teams could make first round upsets in the NBA playoffs. They land on the Philadelphia 76ers with the return of Joel Embiid, Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, and the Miami Heat, and possibly the Indiana Pacers.

  1. The Heat will never be a safe bet. Sure they can ve suddenly up 3-0 against the Celtics but there's also a big chance they'll get swept and blown out every game 😂

  2. Aka the NBAs plan to make sure good small market teams don't ever go anywhere. More concerned with their wallet than the game

  3. Nobody think Dubs are a shot at an upset? I'm not betting against Steph, Klay, and Dray – those guys just know how to win, and have been through it before.

  4. The heat have been a top 3 defense in the league and they just whacked with ease by the dallas mavericks.

  5. Haha the Sixers! We all know how the MVP Joel Embiid will perform in the crunch game 7.

  6. The 76ers are basically a 60 win team disguised as a play-in team. They would’ve won near 60 games if Embiid didn’t miss over 2 months of basketball, yet they are 4 games behind second seeded bucks. Imagine if Embiid never gotten injured.

  7. The Sixers have the same winning percentage as the Celtics when Embiid plays, I actually think they'd be favorites in a first round matchup against Milwaukee, Cleveland or Orlando. Probably not against Knicks and def not against Celtics.

  8. This 1st round for Boston will be massive if they play the Heat and still a big deal if they play 76ers. I think if they choke the team gets blown up if they win it’s redemption Champaign to Finals and they either make it competitive or win as the underdogs against Denver
