Has this always happened to the Lakers?

I know this has been super common the last few seasons it feels like, but for the longer tenured fans was it always this way? Did players in the Kobe era or Magic era see the Lakers on the schedule and say they were healthy to suit up like they do now? It’s just ridiculous at this point and no longer a coincidence so I just want to know if it’s been an on running joke or if it just became a real meme recently

It’s just hilarious he played 39 minutes against us and said yea now I can rest for good

  2. guacdoc24

Pretty much. A lot of laker games get lots of media attention so it’s a good opportunity to put yourself on the radar nationally

Yeah, one of the worst teams in NBA history definitely decided to suit up one of their starters solely for the purpose of spiting the 10th seed. The only thing ridiculous is this victim complex. Who cares lol we shit the bed against injured teams and win against fully healthy ones all the time.

  5. Yup, when the Lakers have marquee players on the team. Otherwise, with the bad Lakers teams nobody cared.

    Like Chance said

“till you realize everyone fuckin hates the lakers” is very true in the league

happens to the knicks whenever a team plays them in the garden. i feel your pain

This isn’t as nefarious as ya’ll like to think.

These teams have local TV contract deals – especially in international regions. Playing against the Lakers with your top players being active generally leads to higher ratings and ticket sales.

This gives franchises more negotiating power.

It’s got to do with $ and not necessarily just to spite the Lakers.

Kuz just wanted to play in LA for obvious reasons and got the go ahead from the team. No conspiracy.

    It is a real thing
A lot of players want to play against the Lakers because they (the Lakers franchise) gets the most attention, and if they show out against them, it’s good for their career

Laker fan for 20+ years, teams always tried harder against the lakers, but resting guys for no reason wasn’t a thing until the spurs pioneered it around 2010ish. In the older days guys didn’t take games off just to rest

  12. BigBitcoinBaller

Think about though. If it’s an injury that can’t get worse, your team is shit so off season for rehab is around the corner.

Also could be the last ever time playing against the arguable GOAT and your previous team you drafted & won a ring with.

This example of miracle injuries healing in time for lakers, I’m fine with.

  13. ihateeuge

Kuzma hurt his ankle in the Lakers game if you remember

  14. Melancholy_Saddness

Kinda bologna really. Kobe would’ve destroyed each and every one of them coming back from “inuury”

  15. Skyfalcon5

Always better attendance when Lakers come to town so he wanted to put on a show for the fans and remind his former team what they’re missing. Wizards are a tanking team so if he was only going to play in 1 game it was this one. I respect that.

Stopped the tank, just for us 😆

  17. xreddawgx

Yes, teams get up for the Lakers and former players love to show off vs us. Its ALWAYS been like that.

  18. AdOutside6690

It could be because of the market perhaps? Like a lot of people watch the Lakers compared to portland, or the raptors. Probably for exposure, yah know. Get the people talking about you.

  19. Kuz still hurt we let him go.

    TBH me too bruh 😭

  20. CarNate1913

Lakers will bring back former players (Howard, D’Lo etc.). I think Kuzma really wants this to happen to him. He loved it there

  21. Laker Champion Kyle Kuzma gets a pass. He better play when we see him. That’s our boy.

  22. noknownothing

It happens because our perimeter defense is absolute shit.

  23. Longjumping_Mud_4135

i hate it and don’t at the same time because playing the lakers or a lebron team means higher ratings and more marketability, also doesn’t help the lakers haven’t been a top tier team either

  24. Trillhouse23

Even Ingram is playing for the first time in forever on Sunday. They all have to play against the Lakers, it’s crazy

  25. maya_papaya8

    It’s the lebron effect 🤣🤣🤣

Some of these guys’ greatest feat is beating Lebron lol it doesn’t matter if he’s almost 40 in year 21. Lol

  26. TorontoRaptors34

Kuz seems like a dude who don’t give af bout winning tbh he just wants the bag and unlimited touches with no expectations

  27. rorroismyname

One thing to always be proud of is the fact that foos play their best against us cause we the ones
