A year ago both Payton Pritchard and Sam Hauser has some expectations of being impactful players in the postseason, but both had their issues and weren’t really in the playoff rotation.
Now both players have taken noticeable leaps in their games both offensively and defensively, earning more trust from Joe and getting more minutes.
And what will be the most anticipated postseason for Boston in years, we will absolutely need these guys to show out off the bench to increase our chances of Banner #18.
But if you had to pick between PP or Hauser, who’s making more of an impact?

It’s incredibly valuable if Hauser’s shooting holds
I feel like PP because he plays with so much energy and he can hit tough shots here and there when needed
I feel like there’ll be a game when we’re low on energy and PP will come in like a Duracell bunny and completely change the complexion of the game.
If we need to come back, PP. If we need to hold a lead, Hauser
Certain matchups hit different. But neither of them will get much beyond 15 minutes a night. When PP is out there I don’t see him getting many direct looks but he will have the ball in his hand.
I’ma go with PP. If he can be a defensive pest /plus on that end and help manage the offense in the middle stages of the game that’ll really help all the other guys have some more gas in the later stages.
Yes.
PP for dayz. Love when slam Hauser gets hot but PP has been more reliable IMO
Sam.
Hauser, as good as PP is having hauser in the game opens up the court for the rest of our scorers
Who cares. Everyone should do their best.
Hauser’s 3 point shooting can help you edge out a series. Pp will be a defensive liability against playoff guards, not to say he can’t be somewhat effective
Payton will.
PP seems tougher and more energetic
Payton.
I have been very happy with PP this season but he is a hunting opportunity in the playoffs on defense. Not to say Hauser isn’t as well, but his blocking ability is literally 4x greater than PP while notching similar stats to each other elsewhere.
both of which have been cooking they are the epitome of role players of the celtics and will shine when the starting line up is getting subbed around.
Sam will be more reliable. Pritchard has a chance to be a wildcard the other team didn’t think about much
They’re gonna be crucial when it comes to resting our guys
in terms of the way they play , Hauser’s game should translate better to the playoffs as PP still likes his tougher shots.
It’s clear to me that Pritchard is a tier above Hauser as a basketball player. Pritchard can do just about everything out there. I can see him winning a sixth man of the year award some day. His skills are impactful.
I loved Brogdon’s impact on the team last year, but I missed seeing this version of PP. I can never forget the time he crossed up Herro and called him too small in ’22. He’s an X-Factor for sure.
I am not just expecting them to contribute most if not every game, we need them to. Playoffs come down to the details, usually shot making, defense, and depth are the separators the deeper you go. And those two aren’t just apart of our bench, they are our bench. If they play poorly for a full series, I do not think we will win.
PP overall but I’m expecting 1-2 games where hauser can’t miss and takes the game into his own hands
Pritchard is a beast
I’m still concerned with both of them in playoff level basketball.
PP will be more likely to have an impact on his own. He can create his own shot and get shots for others. Hell, he even gets the random, big offensive rebound every now and then.
Hauser is more dependent on others finding him when he’s open, but when his shot is on, his offense affects the defense more and spreads things out for everyone else.
Pritchard is a jack of all trades— hauser is a master of one. Hauser’s spacing is one of the most unsung values on this team, and a testament to how valuable shooting is in this league and particularly for our offense. Pritchard is asked to affect the game a lot of different ways depending on context, and I think is vital connective tissue between starters and bench— which is why he leads the league in net rating. Hauser could catch fire and hit 8 threes in a playoff game, for sure, and we will get at least one Pritchard game if I had to guess. But for my money Hauser’s spacing is more vital. Lots of his impact never hits the box sheet because it shows up as easy points off drives and cuts for the jays.
That’s tough. I gotta go Hauser. Unleashing Pritchard will give us that energy boost we might need when we start to lag and lose leads but if Sam’s on, he’s deadly, and it *will* win us games.
Payton Pritchard has to hoop he has no choice after the contract and minutes he’s gotten. Hauser is cool but all I expect from him is to hit his 3s and not fuck up on defense. If he not doing either he should be replaced by Springer or something you lose the 3s but the defense picks up and that lackluster defense cost us in the offs last year. I could say same for Payton too tho. We just didn’t have the same intensity we did in 2022 even tho we had a top 3 defense in the regular season last year I never felt the defensive presence we showed the previous year. I just want the defense to dominate I don’t care about the offense as long as we are healthy I think we can hold up even when we are struggling but the defense can’t just disappear just because shots aren’t falling like we’ve seen a decent amount of times this year.
