The New Yorker reports: The Legend of Playoff Jimmy

“And yet it can be hard to tell, sometimes, whether Butler is the best teammate in the history of the N.B.A. or a bit of an asshole. Probably he’s both. He gets in fights, responds to slights, sometimes jaws at his own coaches. When he thinks his teammates aren’t working as hard as he does, he has been known to humiliate them. He’s played on four N.B.A. teams, and has not always made the smoothest of exits. The general consensus is that he’s not for everyone, and that he has found, in the Heat—with its militaristic and spiritual team president, Pat Riley; its genius coach, Erik Spoelstra; its like-minded star Bam Adebayo; and its collection of overlooked players—his home”

Louisa Thomas for The New Yorker writes about Jimmy Butler, of the Miami Heat, who “plays with a ferocity that makes you believe it.”

Peep the picture next to Jimmy, that’s been in his locker all year. We didn’t get Dame and this man was like, ‘alright no big deal, i’ll make some jokes but i’m gonna be completely over it in a day being the best leader possible’.

Idk if Jimmy is the greatest teammate ever or anything but we’ve heard stories and quotes out of his own damn mouth hyping up our guys and just pouring confidence into; Herro, Bam, Jovic, Jaquez, Highsmith, etc.

This is why i don’t fuck with the, trade-Jimmy-bullshit. Jimmy adores Pat and is a way better mentor than Shaq ever was. We NEED Jimmy to finish his career here.
