It’s not like he was gonna win anyway, but they really should adjust that rule so bench players stay eligible

this is probably an unforseen problem that they didnt account for. the 20 minute rule was made so guys couldnt just check in and check out . not for dudes who were trying to find their role like donte did and more.

I don’t think he was going to win it, but not being eligible is dumb… He definitely deserves and would have received some votes.
Guessing Coby White or Maxey wins it.

So it has to do with the 20 minutes that need to be played for the game to be considered “played in this game”?

He wasnt going to win, but he was going to be on ballots and probably finish in the 5-10 range. Any awards voting is a huge honor for these guys. Now he is robbed of this by this dumb cutoff.

Brunson should win.

Didn’t jj have him in his ballot top 3? Does that vote just get thrown out?

Thibs fault. he wasn’t giving my boy minutes early in the year.
That is a nonsensical formula they have though.
A player could go from end of bench to solid bench guy but if they’re only playing 20 mins it doesn’t count?

How does 6th man of the year work then?

Meh. I don’t think he was a serious challenger for it in the first place.

So fucking dumb. I get it for MVP but should absolutely not be a thing for awards like MIP
Donte Divincenzo was [48th in the league](https://www.nba.com/stats/players/traditional?PerMode=Totals&dir=A&sort=MIN) in total minutes.
If he had played [9 more seconds](https://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/202312290ORL.html) in game 31, when he played 19:51, he’d be eligible.
