Yes. They could have. Orthopedic injuries when you can see the actual mechanism can typically be diagnosed by an orthopedist without imaging.
With that said, gauging the severity of the injury is probably better if you get the imaging test.

From a dude who blew his whole knee. Doctors can think some stuff. Have an educated guess, through years of experience. But the imagining is necessary to put a stamp on it.

It mean it doesn’t change anything if he got it or not, it’s not like he was gonna come back earlier if he didn’t get it nor should he if that was even an option. He’s gonna miss this Celtics series regardless and if we somehow got past this might as well conserve him as much as possible cause our guys would be playing out of their minds to be in the second round anyway. So either way getting the MRI was the ONLY logical choice.
