  1. Your point about two star points on the floor at once not making sense is why I didn't much buy Scoot to the Hornets last (nothing against Scoot). I don't know that Trae is overrated more than he needs a better system and roster fit.

  2. Hey man! Do you have any idea how expensive hair plugs are!? Trae Young does and that's worth missing the playoffs lmao
No, your right, it's just the Hawks are in a hell of a spot because if they move on Young what could they get for him really? 3 first rounders? But, to who and why? I mean you would create a Lillard-Bucks problem on any team you trade him to (probable worse). The Magic is the only team that might be able to survive his deficiency, but still.

  3. Thank you! I've been saying for a while that Young's hype and success comes from the league trying to make him the next Curry. The guy only takes 30 percent of his shots within 10 feet and is always amongst the league leaders in free throws.

  4. If you have to choose between Dejounte Murray and Trae Young, you'd be crazy not to choose Trae Young. People have completely forgotten just how good Trae was before DJ joined the Hawks.

  5. Trae Young is an offensive engine by himself. Get a good backup PG and then everyone else should be a rim running big or 3/D. Then they'd be fine.

  6. Trae is a star, and I think that it's unfair to put all of the Hawks's struggles on him. However, he is nowhere hear good enough to lead a team to prosperity. The question is, who or what will they get for him if they do trade him? The Hawks' fromt office doesn't have a glowing record with trades. Also, Idk about building around Murray. Despite the positives that you mentioned about his impact, he isn't that much better than Trae. They should consider trading both.

  7. This is why athletes are often advised not to read media outlets, i'm not even getting into it… If watch them again and again means they're doing something that is both enjoyable to watch, and different. The boy is no doubt a franchise player, but being the NBA there are a good few that just go about the business spectacularly too, but for my money he is All-Star material without a doubt.

  8. I don’t think overrated is the right synopsis towards his career. Trae was always an elite second option due to his height anyways, but Atlanta NEVER gave him an elite BIG man. Even if him and Murray worked out better as a duo it wasn’t gonna be enough. Trae has shown he can be impactful in the right situations but he’s always been a number 2 for Championship contenders

  9. Great take as always Jamal! The league is changing and we're seeing less value placed on offense-only players. It's happening on multiple teams throughout the league – for Bulls fans, it happened with Zach Lavine, and it's happening with Trae Young too.

Trae is a very talented offensive player, that's a true statement. However, that's just not enough in an evolving league where mismatches are so heavily targeted and defensive liabilities are abused, particularly in high stakes games and playoff series.

When Trae was injured, the Hawks came in and rocked the Bulls with fast pace, ball movement, and team play. When Bulls fans heard Trae was back for the play-in, they rejoiced, because they knew it would equal a dub, and it did.

Sure, his offensive talent is valuable, and maybe in the right situation he could continue to impact winning at the rate that some people expect. But right now, I would argue that he's a net negative – he's one of the league's worst defenders, and while offensively talented, the poor shot selection and high usage reduce that offensive impact and that's why you end up with a situation where the Hawks play better and more cohesively as a unit as soon as he exits the lineup.

The era of offense-only superstars is slowly fading away. The only offense-only players who can claim the superstar title are the absolute top echelon of players in the entire world (KD, Jokic, Luka, etc.). Two-way players are the future of the superstar – Giannis, Embiid, Tatum, Wemby, SGA, etc. – this shift is slow, but it's definitely happening, and seeing players like Trae Young/Zach Lavine's stocks at an all-time low is evidence of it.

  10. The Magic are a team I'd keep an eye on, they can't even score 90 points rn and desperately need some shooting. I'm thinking Isaac, Cole Anthony, Gary Harris, and picks for Young. I could also see the Magic throwing a bag at Klay this offseason as well.

  11. Trae Young right now is what KAT was in like 2018-2019. A guy who puts up good numbers on a bad team and can't get it done in the playoffs. But people treat him like he's a franchise player when he's not which is why people think he's overrated. Just like KAT, Trae is a 1B type player not a 1A even if he gets 1A treatment.
