If he doesn't win it this year, he'll definitely win it in the near future. He's already a top 3 defender in the league as a rookie
He deserves it he's the best defender this year and all the stats prove it but as much as i hate it i really Believe they aren't going to give it to him this year and it sucks
Gobert is better than Wemby overall, Americans dont know proper basketball. Not everything Rudy does shows up on a stat sheet. Wemby is a young talented star player who will gradually get better, he has not even played 100 games yet and still has to prove he can stay healthy.
The argument people are using is wemby was not the dpoy from the start. His slow start people using against him

Tbh,I think Spurs fans care too much about this…
I mean Duncan never had DPOY before but we already knew he's the NO.1 defender during his era.
When people talk about Duncan they won't say how many DPOY
he got,but the 5 rings,the B2B MVPs,the 3 FMVPs.
Plus, Victor already got advantage, he's more of a Kobe or Jordan ,not as low key as Duncan.
I'm sure the league will advertise him more than TD ever had.
Like honestly,who cares about this DPOY when he would be set up for
5~6 in his career?

You're free to love Sochan (and be blind as a result) but you should also face reality.
D-ratings are not just about team D.
You have for example
Rim Defense = the diffefence between the field goal percentage a player allows within 6 feet vs what those same opponents shoot against all other players.
Sochan Rim Defense = -0.7 which is exactly average (49% of NBA players are worst)
it means when a player shoot normally 60% within 6 feet he'll shoot 59.3% vs Sochan… Which is nearly the same result.
FYI Wemby Rim Defense = -11.1 (95% of NBA players are worst)
You could also argue that all Sochan's D-metric are higher than his real value because he mostly play alongside Wemby.
Sochan: CraftedDPM -0.5 (32%) / DDARKO -0.3 / DDRIP 0.4 / DBPM -0.6 (negative mean bad, 0 mean no D-impact (average), positive mean good, -2 or worst = one of the worst defender in the league, >+2 = Elite D )
All his D-metrics are average even with the help of Wemby.
Yes Sochan is switchable and versatile on D. Yes he have to face best scorers many times (because outside of him and Wemby the rest of Spurs roster sucks on D), but he just do an average job defending them.
Eye-test blinded by love is not sufficient to value a player. You should check more data, like CraftedNBA (it's free)
What people mean when they say Rudy deserves it this year is that Timberwolves, as a team, deserve to have the DPOY on their roster this year and Rudy is the one it would go to if it had to go to a Timberwolves player.
