  1. I think if this was the plan we should have just drafted Penix and used the money to go get a Daniele hunter and MORE 180 million is no joke. I just don’t see Penix as a “raw” prospect in the same way Jordan Love and Patrick Mahomes were. Either way Kirk cousins will not be the same player at 38 he was last year. 2 years of Kirk cousins and then 2 years of Penix before you need to pick up a 5th year option. I don’t love the pick but if it works out for the best and we can become a perennial playoff team they’ll call this a genius move. If it fails everybody getting fired and Arthur Blank prolly dying from a heart attack.

  2. I’m a black man, I don’t think NFL does things like this but these guys in Atlanta look like Diversity Hires. You sign Kirk to big money you can’t move immediately, YOU CANNOT DRAFT A QB IN THE TOP 10 and expect them to sit. So you essentially paid 180 for a bridge QB? Looks stupid, is stupid, begs the question are these guys qualified in Atlanta.

  3. A headscratcher, a serious one, watching that Michigan Washington championship game I was sold on penix then, that's when we still had ridder at the helm, penix has a cannon for a arm and is deadly accurate, a awesome QB who is gonna shine given the right system, let's hope he stays healthy
    RISE UP

  4. Panix is not better than Cousins. Cousins numbes prove he's worthy, this is what you call "emotional commentary". Stop? Penix can be your future and work on his game , mid range to be eaxct. He can sit and learn.

  5. The vax is definitely settling into the espn reporters…. Wow they’re getting dumber and dumber.

  6. Of course he is. Stephen A Smith was disgusted when Cousins became the starter for the Redskins. He was disgusted when the Redskins used the tag on him. He was disgusted when the Vikings signed him. He was disgusted when the Vikings resigned him. He was disgusted when the Falcons signed him.

We have 15+ years of Smith hating on white QBs existing. He called Tom Brady washed in 2010.

  7. They only don’t think its a mistake because Penix is Black. He isn’t going to start until he is 26/27. He has been injured a few times and has the potential to be a dual threat. Historically, you can predict that Penix won’t have a long career. Kirk Cousins can last long because he doesn’t run. These the same mfs who swore Stetson Bennet had potential but a injury prone QB that isn’t going play until he is 26/27 is not the answer. Raheem / Terry sold, its a chance they won’t be there in 3/4 years so why Draft for something that you probably won’t use in your Tenure. Its the entire Franchise fault but Terry has to be fired after this.

  8. Those of you who like the move aren’t seeing the cap implications. If Penix is the future, he will be due for an extension one year removed from Kirk’s contract since rookie 1st rounders get a 4 year deal plus a team option. Teams also trend to paying QB’s early. There will be little to no building around Penix, since all that money is already tied to grossly overpaying Kirk. Paying Kirk can be fine, and drafting Penix can be fine, but doing both is insanity.

  9. This is Jordan Love 2.0 but Green Bay didn’t OVER PAY Rodgers. Falcons overpaid Cousins and that’s the problem

  10. The falcons paid cousins that kind of money, which shows the will to win now. But picking penix jr does not show the will to prepare to win, which wins super bowls. One doesn't take a top 10 pick to have him sit on the bench for years. A top 10 pick is someone that can play immediately and is a good part of your future. Trading down a few spots and getting a top defender would have been the right move. Every year QBs get hyped by their agents or something new comes along, so why the rush. What's worse is Penix jr has two ACL tears playing in college. With the team they have now I don't see them picking outside the top 15 next year. Absolute best case scenario is a replica of the 2022 very fortunate 13-4 vikings (lost in wild card). They have a lot of needs on defense.

  11. NEVER MIND ABOUT THE DRAMA THAT THE ATLANTA FALCONS…HAD……I'M DISGUSTED THAT THE NEW YORK GIANTS DIDN'T PICK MR. DRAKE MAYE !!!!

  12. Can we start talking about NFL contracts more like we talk about NBA contracts? Cousins has 2 year contract, with $100M guaranteed, and a team option for two years. Cutting Kirk after year 2 frees up $35M in cap space at a time when they are going to need to start paying some of these young guys. If Cousins is playing well, they might even be able to trade him.

  13. Cousins is 35 right? How many more contracts is he aiming for after this on to be upset that they drafted someone? lol

  14. Love the Penix pick, and I'm a season ticket holder. He's who I've wanted since the off-season started. Love how Ryan said Raheem sold it, because that's exactly right.

  15. As a Falcons fan, Mr. Smith, allow me to explain it to you.

    1) If Kirk Cousins is worth the guaranteed contract, if Cousins' medicals were clear, then drafting Penix Jr. is wasting a pick.

    2) If you are concerned with Cousins' injury or post-season production to the point you need to draft Penix Jr., then signing Cousins was a waste of $100 million dollars.

I'm with you on not caring if he was consulted. I don't give a wet moose-fart about Kirk Cousins' feelings. He's an employee. An employee who is over-compensated for his services.

  16. Why is everyone acting like they can't draft defensive players in the 2nd – 7th round, and that 1st round draft players are guaranteed hits?

Second, how many quarterbacks start right away and have success compared to those who sit for a year or two and learn (Tom Brady, Aaron Rogers, Patrick Mahomes, etc). Most of the quartebacks in the past 15 years (outside of Russel Wilson) who didn't sit behind a qb for at least a season or half a season, have all flamed out or have never won a superbowl. And only two others (Joe Burrow and Cam Newton) even made it to a superbowl. We keep throwing away the young talent of QB's because we're too impatient with waiting for them to develop, instead of letting them sit and learn before being thrown into the fire. Point is Falcons can still address the defense in the later rounds, while also giving their future qb the best chance to succeed.

  17. Ryan Clark just said you aren't going to find a franchise quarterback after pick 15, lol. Lamar Jackson, Jordan love, Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Jalen Hurts, Dak Prescott just off the top of my head got picked later. They should have gone win now mode. penix is injury prone, and even if cousins were to get injured, we've guys like Brock Purdy do great with great pieces around him. So you create a great team around kirk.
