I bet it sucks not being out there getting the run.

Watching from the sidelines just going to make him hungrier. Next year he’s going Anthony Edwards levels, I just know it.

Crazy how it felt like the season was basically over for many when he went down.

I honestly wonder how effective he’d be. He had a bad habit this season of weakly going to the rim looking for the foul rather than trying to power through for the bucket. With the increased physicality of the playoffs, that kind of shot taking would be largely detrimental.

Downvote away but almost every advanced metric showed that Mathurin was a net negative in aggregate this year. We are probably better giving his minutes to Shepherd at this point as he can be impactful as a low usage player.
He had some flashes of growth and brilliance this year but he’s still got a bit of a ways to go. With Turner emerging as our clear #3, Nembhard & Nesmith continuing to grow their offensive game, and the question mark that is Jarace Walker, it’s entirely possible he ends up the odd man out and gets traded.
I still love his potential and you cannot teach his killer attitude. He could end up being a Jimmy Butler / Jaylen Brown hybrid-type star. I think he’ll start next year as our 6th man with the hope that his defense, handle, and playmaking will improve. If it does, I’ll be interested to see where he slots in. Lots of interesting questions we’ll have to address this offseason…

I won’t necessarily disagree but I’m curious OP whose minutes you think he’s taking.

Where is mathurin going to fit if nemby keeps up his playoff performance? Mathurin has the higher potential but nemby is realizing his right now. And shepherd is providing 3 and d as a rook too. Competition breeds success hopefully

Nembhard’s defense at 2 has been pretty damn valuable. Mathurin underachieves considerably on defense. His level of effort on defense can’t even compare to Nembhard, Nesmith, or Sheppard. Mathurin is good at drawing some fouls, but he’s putting most of his effort on half of the court.

I think he has great things ahead of him, but I don’t know whose minutes I’d want to give him.

I think is scenario is good Benn overall. Getting to watch a heated playoff series without any pressure to perform is great experience for any young player to go through. Watch and learn from as close as possible. He will have a much clear idea of what will be expected of him and to experience the atmosphere. Not the ideal situation but definitely a silver lining.

If the Bucks come back and beat us, it’s because we weren’t at full strength. Doesn’t even count, basically.
