One thing about this sub is they will overrate and meat ride a player as hard as humanly possible despite said player having achieved literally nothing. Exhibit A: Rui Hachimura.

They practice once or twice a week. They freestyle during the game. Sounds chaotic for a foreign born player trying to adapt stateside. If Pop had Rui he would have done better.

If he’s at the elbow they don’t get a clean look. AD can recover to Jokic, there’s no good angle for KCP, Gordon is sealed off and Prince is in the passing lane to MPJ. Rui is just beyond stupid on defense

Rui’s biggest weakness is reading and reacting while also not being able to anticipate where he needs to be. Prince is obviously telling rui to be up higher and closer to the elbow so Murray can’t just get to the elbow without a defender being there to shade/stunt at him. If rui would’ve been up higher and closer to the elbow he could’ve stunted or would’ve been at least showing help to Murray to make sure Murray couldn’t just dribble right into the paint. Rui also would’ve been able to get back to kcp or Prince would’ve rotated to kcp an either bron/rui rotate to porter jr on a swing pass. The big problem the whole playoffs was that bron and AD were the only ones who knew how to rotate or when to rotate. There were so many times that bron and AD would rotate to someone to stop a drive/open shot and no one would rotate to their man or rotate correctly in general. Defensive rotations were awful the whole series from everyone but our stars.
Edit: I believe this was all with under 3-4 seconds on the shot clock too. Can’t tell exactly but it looks like Murray shot it with like 2.5 or something on the shot clock. Rui could’ve shut that whole possession down and forced a bad shot if he would’ve been showing help at or closer to the elbow. Murray would’ve had to settle for a deeper mid range since he wouldn’t have been able to get to the elbow or he would’ve had to pass to kcp who would’ve had to shoot if the shot clock was low enough. Rui could’ve recovered for a contest on kcp or prince would’ve rotated for a contest and if there was enough time for kcp to pass to the corner either bron/rui/prince were right there to contest that also. Just terrible defense by rui and it allowed Murray to get an easier shot that shouldn’t have been available.

But I was told by this sub that Rui was the savior all along.

Now if Murray passes to KCP and he knocks down the 3, Rui would be blamed for over helping when Reaves already had help from AD. It doesn’t come down to this one play, lakers offense got stagnant in the 4th.

Someone edit this to Prince pushing rui on the plane to China.
Rui, you are now a member of the guangdong tigers!

Rui? More like Pooey

This is asking too much already but I would prefer to see Lebron guard Murray in that situation. Bron already does so damn much can’t blame him for being on someone else but ideally you want him on Murray.

Trade Rui and Dlo together hopefully we can get something good in return.
Above all else fire Ham

unnecessary switch by Prince. He got lazy and didnt follow KCP to the wing. Rui was supposed to stay with MPJ and help on the box out. TP shouldve stayed with the cutter and wouldve been in weakside help right at the elbow.
To make matters worse, Prince telling Rui to stay up at that very moment was when Murray made the move to the pull-up. Prince and Ham lost us the game.

this play and the gordon offensive rebound over lebron were frustrating to watch…

I liked what Rui did last year in the playoffs and some games this year but he was a huge liability in this series on both ends of the floor.
Not sure how the team started winning after he was added to the starting lineup later in the season but it probably had more to do with everyone hitting their open shots than him being a starter, which they couldn’t do if their life depended on it in this series. So many missed open shots I was shaking my head constantly.

Gotta make Kcp beat you

Man, outside of blocking it or blowing up the action, AR couldn’t have contested it any better though. Props to Murray.
Yommination
Rui has a low basketball IQ. He can score but has very little feel for the game
Miserable-Lawyer-233
AR should’ve pressured Murray earlier rather than let them set up that screen at the time of their choosing.
cheaseedz
My goat Reaves recovered better than Rui can move 1 foot
WitnShit
TP caught lot of slack for being one of Ham’s favorites and not putting up numbers expected of a starter, but was a beast off the bench and came thru with some clutch shots. Good 3 pt catch and shooter. Shouldn’t be blamed for Ham’s mismanagement of him.
tj_bawa
Rui might be an offensive weapon (although he wasn’t this series) but he has a negative IQ in team defense.
Angularbackhands
Wow, Rui being fucking clueless off ball. Colour me shocked
