    This is basically just JG Wentworth, but for life insurance instead of structured settlements. Every person involved in every step of this transaction is a POS, including the deceased.

    Illegal is not quite the right word here, though — more like invalid. There will be no criminal charges or fines or anything — just lost assets if the insurer or the deceased’s estate can successfully win in civil court.

    Fraud gets thrown around a lot. The actual criminal fraud definition is much more narrow than people assume.
