I think this was a decent move. Most 28th picks turn into nothing and Green really had like half a good year after the bubble championship.
Schroeder filled a big void that Rondo going after his bag left and we saw last year on his second time with the team that he did fit nicely with this group.

At the time Dennis was arguably the best/second best sixth man in the league along with Montrezl Harrell so I understand the move back then. This whole sub was hyped when it happened.
Obviously in hindsight we’d all want Jaden McDaniels now, he’s one of the best defenders in the league

So, my issue is that the only point guard in the Lakers LeBron era that was perhaps more effective than Dlo was Schroder. Yet, he was extremely selfish. He was very entertaining but the ego was enormous.
If the Lakers are willing to throw $30M at a top-tier point guard, then great. Otherwise, it’s just noise.

The move was lauded at the time. Hindsight is always 20/20
Hungry-Space-1829
It was a good move at the time, but, I do remember lakers Reddit and Twitter really wanting Desmond bane as a 3 and d guy. Who knew just how damn good he would be, though. Same with McDaniels

The move was great at the time and still a move that I think was good in hindsight. Schroeder was pretty important to that 2021 team and without injuries that team would’ve been competing for another ring. We were 21-6 and the 1 seed before injuries. We would’ve beaten the suns had AD not gone down when we were up double digits in game 4

The sub may have been excited and liked moves. But when something goes wrong with trade and is exposed through time… it is the GM’s fault. That’s his job. Magic didn’t draft Tatum. He let big muscle player Dwight leave, broke up championship team, then still haven’t given AD big man help. Denver beat us because they got two bigs… wolves got two bigs. We paved the road map for a champ team and we broke up our own team and concept. Coach needs to go. Rob had enough time, we need a change. But nothing will happen bc lakers can’t afford to keep paying dead contracts. I’m a lakers fan not a hater. The worse feeling is when the champ team can’t run it back. Why break something when not broken.
Yommination
I hated that move. Shroeder type guards are easier to find than big 3 and D wings like Green. Giving up a first to do it that just makes it worse. Signing Harrel and giving up guys like Dwight and McGee was puzzling too. Pelinka has made this team smaller over time and it’s no mystery why rebounding is lacking
Greedy_Nectarine_233
The Denis trade seemed like a home run at the time, tough one

Same vibes as that time the Hornets traded Kobe Bryant for Vlade Divac. lol
Klaxosaur
Oh please. What’s this revisionist history bs lmao. Everyone was hyped to get Dennis at the time. Danny was getting death threats and people didn’t wanna a rookie.
NobelRafael1
Ouch! There were also rumors that the Lakers were interested in taking Desmond Bane with this pick.
BrickySanchez
We stay overpaying for trades. Like giving up Garland in the AD trade. Who the hell else was he going to get traded to?! Boston?? Yeah we won the title that year so who cares.. but that trade was such a steep overpay that the league forced on us. “We can’t just let everyone leave their first market to go to the Lakers so you guys better pay up.”
dutnguye
i remember Danny Green was getting death threats after missing the shot in the finals series that we ended up with the victory in g6 anyway. It was a good trade and the team was having the best record before Lebron’s untimely injury.
HORSEthedude619
I hate the hindsight.
That team was good enough to go back to back. Having McDaniels wouldn’t have changed that (he probably ends up traded in a year or two anyways).
SpudzNBudzInc
dude been making horrendous decisions without accountability for far too long
falafelsatchel
Still the right move easily. The problem was prioritizing Trez over Dwight and then Drummond over Gasol and injuries. That team was good.
Idenkiteki
He would be getting the Max Christi treatment

2021 was doomed by the short turnaround which gave Bron and AD no time to recover…the trade was meant to alleviate the pressure on Bron as a ball handler…Danny Green was pretty well cooked. The move made sense at the time.

Na you’re all cooked, Danny was throwing bricks at that point. Dennis was always solid for the lakers

This was a good move. Yall full of shit.
Odd-Direction9452
The precursor to the Westbrook trade. When the FO began to shift their priorities to putting playmakers/shot creators around LeBron over 3-D players. Same formula that led to them picking THT over Caruso. Just a flat out bad overcorrection by Pelinka that we’re still feeling the impact of to this day.
TriggerHappy999
Will never know, even if we did not pick Max Christie
Munk45
Shrewwwwderr was awesome with us.

Hindsight talk is pointless, it was a fine trade at the time. It’s like saying we should’ve drafted Jokic over Randle in 2014 draft. Nobody knows the future.
rickydcm
We got the #1 and #2 Sixth Man of the Year that season and our core intact back then. If you want to have those what it could have been, it should’ve been a 2-peat if AD and Bron wasn’t injured.
Also, it was a short off-season for the Lakers back then.
justgrowingup
We wouldn’t have even drafted McDaniels so irrelevant
WanAjin
wtf is this stupid shit? We were literally 21-6 at one point in the season, injuries killed the team, not Rob (in fact he killed the off-season, adding to a championship team is not easy)
Enjoyingcandy34
eh.
Dennis shroeder was good for us and we coullda used him this year.
