My brother and I were at this gameā¦I still currently have my We Believe shirt from this game (itās literally folded on top of my dresser right now).
From 30 mins before tip off to 30 mins afterā¦not a single person sat down. Greatest sporting moment of my life and weāve been to at least a game in every playoffs series the last 17 years, including the finals.
Only the 2015 championship comes close to topping this moment for me.
Damn I remember our guys going off but I didn’t remember how poorly Dirk played. Dude got locked up
Weāve come a long way. Great memories.
Chase is a nice arena but it has nowhere near the home court advantage of Roaracle
This is the season that got me into basketball. Baron, Monta, Captain Jack. What a fun squad.
bruh.. you just slapped me with this fact that 2007 was 17 fucking years ago
That was such a fun team to watch!
J Rich. Love me some Spartan lore.
I was watching this at city nights ššš
The funny thing about this is Karma eventually came back around. The We Believe team was coached by Don Nelson, the guy who basically found Dirk and brought him to the NBA. He knew every weakness, every way to exploit his ex-player, and it showed. After the Warriors won they were summarily dismissed by the next team waiting.
So fast forward to like two years ago and what happens? Coach Mike Brown leaves to the Kings and takes with him all the same sort of insider knowledge on how to defeat Steph, how to body him without baiting foul calls, how to shut down the Warriors offense. And yeah, we did defeat them in Game 7 last year but it took everything Steph had.
Here’s Nelson reminiscing about that time while looking like Kris Kristopherson’s stunt double in Blade:
