The main difference with PG and other options (ie Jimmy): the only cost to sign him is cap space. Every other rumored star will cost both cap space AND multiple firsts. PG means we’d have 5 firsts + cap space to build the rest of the roster

If we trade for Jimmy for example, that could cost us 1-2 firsts because we won’t really have players to send back. This means we’d have Jimmy’s huge deal PLUS 2 less firsts for the rest of our team

PG is essentially “free” because we get him in FA for cap space. It’s a huge advantage over other alternatives, because we’d still have cap space and 5 tradable firsts on draft night to wheel and deal with. We don’t owe Clippers shit, we can just sign PG outright

I’m not a fan of PG, but this is pretty significant. If Riley asks for 2 firsts for Jimmy, I’d rather do PG for sure, but maybe that’s just me. I just don’t think the mythical “young player who can shoot and play defense” is actually available on the market lol, and for the young studs that could be available like Lauri, we’d get outbid easily by teams like OKC

But why not just fill out a team with excellent role players and keep it a 2 headed monster. Why confuse things

If you guys use that space to sign PG instead of just resigning Harden last year, it’s a complete mistake.

Harden is better than PG, is a better fit, and his game will translate better as they get older. PG gets stonewalled by anyone that’s the same size as him at this point. I promise there were no Clippers fans that were happier when PG had the ball in his hands over Harden, and he was significantly more disappointing in the post season.

What’s PG without the 13 though? Maybe the number is his power đŸ€”

Sure. It only gets interesting if Butler would agree to a cheaper contract extension for whatever reason to get out of Miami.

Is Butler for 3 years at 40 per worth trading a couple picks for instead of PG at 4-5 years at 50 million plus per year? Not sure what that flexibility would allow us to do.

Obviously doesn’t matter if George doesn’t come here. I don’t think it’s likely.

End of the day, I’m betting the money gets spread around to Oubre, Melton, a Bball Paul upgrade and another wing guy. Hopefully Lowry and Batum back as well.

  5. The job a gm is to project who can be a “mythical young player who can shoot and play defense”. The Knicks found a few, Boston found Derrick White, and there are countless other examples.

What bozos do is give big contracts to 35 year olds with zero history of success. Let’s hope Daryl Morey isn’t that.

  6. We don’t need any more older players

PG is 34 with some injury history

We need young fresh players who will actually hustle and fight for the ball.

Yeah, PG would be the best option because you would still have a lot of assets to trade for role players like Caruso etc

I’m really not a fan of giving multiple firsts for any of Butler or Ingram, as much as I love Jimmy, he takes the Regular season as a holiday and we are going ti need players to be able to step up in the RS with Embiid nissing games inevitably

We won’t get PG because he can’t wear 13

QUIT IT!! Nobody wants this bum! Guy does absolutely nothing in the post season. Just another James Harden/Carmelo Anthony/Derrick Coleman type.
