Jeff Weltman: “Since January 1st we were the 14th 3PT% team in the NBA. He added he doesn’t believe the team lacks shooting and that it’s part of “internal growth”. Mentioned he feels it’s an area “we want to look to get better, but not at the expense” of the teams DNA

That’s gonna be a spicy take on here.

He’s not wrong though, if Fultz is replaced by someone who can at least take threes, and Franz/Cole get back to around league average as we’ve seen them do before, there’s no lack of shooting. The problem is just those three guys.

  2. Think he’s just blowing smoke. He knows we need shooters but doesn’t need to sound desperate to the media.

I agree that we have players developing still. But I also think we have plenty of role players who are easily replaceable with NBA players who have proven to shoot better. There are a few free agents, and even those on the “trade market” who I would take as instant bench upgrades over Fultz, Cole, Harris etc.

Suggs took a huge step forward and WCJ has been a solid shooter for a couple of seasons now. Paolo and Franz will continue to develop but no need to keep a group of “other” players who can’t shoot well and aren’t worth more years under contract or millions of dollars.

He’s correct. They don’t need to make wholesale changes to this roster. They likely have a couple of players moving on, like Harris and Ingles. If they improve those two roster spots, this team will be in much better shape.

Can we get 2019 Klay? He fits in nicely

I agree. I think we need a knockdown guy or two, which might be Jett who’s already on the team and a guy like Monk. I think most guys on the team are underperforming their shooting ability. Nobody is a complete non shooter, but nobody is knockdown, which make cold streaks pretty rough

  7. This team is way ahead of schedule, and it was put together by Weltman. Culture, chemistry and camaraderie were huge factors in our team’s success, and will ultimately be our greatest asset when it comes to keeping our superstars long-term. (Something we have struggled to do historically) While I hope he is able to addresses our current needs this summer, I trust him to continue making the correct calls to eventually deliver a team that is a long-term championship contender.

I don’t like this blind faith approach we haven’t shown any ability to develop even ft shooting as a skill. I don’t know how much I trust guys to just grow into good shooters. Cherry picking percent when we have a really low rate is odd too. keep the teams dna yea but that’s mostly defense and physicals we can find proven shooters that fit our ideals without gutting the roster. But saying everyone’s just gonna get better is blind optimism.

I like this answer. Don’t want to overcorrect. If our guys who were in a slump get their 3pt numbers back up (and Jett is battle ready), then adding another shooter could be overkill.

Omg this dude is delusional if he’s ok with our offense.

  11. The typical Weltman response. dude is afraid of his own shadow. FIRE HIM 🔥

  12. We need shooting. Period. No we cannot go on with this offense. Something has to change.

A PG that shoots at least 36%+ and Franz needs to get his shot back. Then we can have a conversation.
