[Charania] If Mitchell decided to stay in Cleveland long term, sources briefed on the matter say Garland’s representation, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul, would have a conversation with Cavs officials on potentially finding a new home for the one-time All-Star.

> Furthermore, rival executives believe the Cavs will have to seriously evaluate the fit of Mitchell and Garland and ultimately may have to choose one or the other. Should Mitchell decide to stay long term, sources briefed on the matter say Garland’s representation, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul, would have a conversation with Cavs officials on potentially finding a new home for the one-time All-Star.

> After an All-Star campaign in 2021-22 in which he averaged 21.7 points, 8.6 assists and 3.3 rebounds, Garland’s minutes, field goal and 3-point attempts and usage percentage have all dropped upon the arrival of Mitchell.

Give Mitchell the keys to the city

Send Garland to Brooklyn or something

Even as someone who still believes in DG, if the cost of keeping dono is needing to trade DG that’s not a very hard decision at least at this point in time.

We are in for another bi-yearly major roster shakeup arnt we. I mean we should be, but this one might be on the Sexton/Lauri level.

  4. Pretty crazy how many things have already come out tonight. JB rumors, teammates of Allen frustrated with him, and now this Garland trade rumor

If this is true, bye bye DG. I loved having him but the call between D Mitch and DG is a no brainer. Of course, this is all assuming Mitchell even wants to resign which is still up in the air.

Cavs were really dominant in the regular season when the starting lineup was Mitchell, 3 shooters and Allen. Its the best their net rating has been too. Playing two ball dominant guards together doesn’t work and it’s the same with playing two centers that can’t shoot. Mobley has a higher ceiling than Allen though but I think you gotta make decisions as to what center you keep too if you want to maximise your chances of winning.

  7. I for one am kind of excited opportunity the team has if the FO can execute. Building around mobely and Mitchell hypothetically sounds great to me especially when you factor in having Allen and garland as assets to bring in pieces around Evan and Don and hopefully with a new coach. I think opens all kind of possibilities. I know Cavs fans love garland. I don’t have a problem with garland but his contract and his fit with Mitchell makes things nearly impossible to build around that dynamic.

Worst case scenario is we sign Mitchell, trade Garland , and then a year into the deal Mitchell requests a trade

Sounds like Garland has wanted out for a while now

  10. man all this time i’ve backed garland and been against him getting traded and then this shit comes out. i love dg, but you screwed up this series. requesting a trade is such a slap in the face

    This seems like the way.

We will also probably try and move Allen since Mobley looks much better at the 5 position and his 3 ball hasn’t really developed like we’d hoped. Allen should carry big trade value given his excellent contract and terrific performance in the playoffs.

I think the best possible outcome is to trade DG and Allen to pick up a star wing and a couple quality role players who can join our new big 3.

Would love if LeBron could be that star wing. Paul George and Brandon Ingram are both also good options. We could involve the Spurs in a 3-way trade as well if they don’t go for Trae, Garland would be a good backup plan. We should try and get some draft capital back as well.

Good. DG is not him. An absolutely gutless performance tonight when we needed him most. He’s Sexton. A high volume shooter who can score big numbers in meaningless regular season games but can’t run a big time offense at the point when the competition is at its highest.

I’m actually very excited to see what this team looks like come next season, should be some major moves incoming

For all this to come out immediately after the game feels sort of planted. Shams was just waiting to hit send? Feels multiple camps were feeding him dirty laundry and that this locker room was not jelling at all.

I know this is an unpopular opinion but I would like to keep DG and get assets for Mitchell I think this team can go far with DG and good coaching. He elevated Mobley and Allen’s game 2 years ago when he was the primary ball handler he has a chance to be the modern version of Steve Nash still I don’t think we should give up on him.

This was a hit piece that was just waiting for the series to end, that’s apparent. But it also seems mostly plausible. A rib injury is rough but you are playing in a playoff series against the best team in the conference. It’s obvious something was going on with Allen being questionable before every single game. Regardless if it was “strategy” or training staff trying to get him to take a shot and him refusing before every game. JB, I mean I think it’s been known he needs to go he just gave a glimpse of hope winning one game against the Celtics without Don? Congrats, but let’s be honest, the Celtics have always been inconsistent in the playoffs. The Heat had no reason beating them one game on the road without Butler, even if they do have Spo. Not to mention though, Mazzulla is not a very good coach given the talent they have on that team. In the end if it comes down to it, seems like if Don is serious about staying, you resign him, ship DG and Allen, fire JB with Don having a say who comes in. Let’s discuss.

Everyone in here shitting on DG like he demanded a trade has a negative reading comprehension. “Sources say RICH PAUL (not DG) would HAVE A CONVERSATION with the Cavs on POTENTIALLY…” this whole statement is riddled with conditionals that have nothing to do with Garland. Go to sleep goofballs.

  18. boogswald

This article literally just says “hey everyone this is Rich Paul and I want you to know 1 I don’t know what Donovan Mitchell is gonna do but 2 if he does stay with the Cavs I want them to trade Darius Garland”

  19. badassjohn5

Great. Another perk. DG played like a WNBA G Leaguer since February.
