Salaun a likely candidate to be the pick at 8

Per Givony’s article: https://www.espn.com/nba/insider/story/_/page/NBADraft24-40145332/2024-nba-draft-combine-prospects-workout-highlights-measurements-stats-more

Also a quote of Wemby endorsing him: “I can trust this guy to get better and to work out like crazy”

Thoughts?

He’s hasn’t been top 10 in any mock drafts, but that Coulibaly rose through the process too.

Salaun isn’t anywhere close to being an NBA player. Maybe in a few years.

Can’t read through the paywall but at the moment I’d rather go for him at 8 than, say, Risacher at 4. I want Castle at 4.

All these guys are projects. They need to bulk up, they need defense, they need to learn to shoot, etc… Might as well swing for the biggest upside.

  5. I’m okay with keeping Wemby happy. Get whoever he says 😂

Never heard of the guy, but I love his size and mobility. Seems to navigate traffic well, shows off some range, Wemby vouch…. I’m all for it, especially since he’s only 18. This could be our forward pick at 8 and we could snag a guard at 4

    Le Directeur Général Wembanyama

If we are taking someone like Castle at 4, a high upside project at 8 can make sense. The Spurs are putting together pieces and giving them time to develop and I don’t think there is a big push this off-season to make sure every piece is in place. I think we see more moves like that in 2025.

  8. As a fan, try to look for 5-10 prospects in this draft. This is the kind of class we have this year. So many questions and the mock board is all over the place.

I fucking love this. Better get one of the Kentucky guards at 4 then. A big no to topic. I have a bad feeling about him just underwhelming in the nba but playing well overseas (Ricky Rubio). He has no burst to get his own looks and has a wonky shot. And injuries. Sorry topic.

Pretty sure he will be a bust. Only making around 44% of his layups, has a very raw handle, misses reads passing, doesn’t have good feel for cutting offball, ball watches on d, misses rotations, and can be overaggressive on help. It is a lot of things to work on(also has to get much better as a shooter but I buy it to some extent)

The upside if he can fix being kind of a low feel player is there tho. He looks huge, moves fluidly, kinda has a shot, and has a very active motor.

When people call him a project they mean it. He’s not a project like most of the other guys being considered in the lottery. I could see him spending 2-3 years in the gleague or playing low minutes before cracking the rotation.

    Listen to Wemby. That simple.

If he gets it right, that’s fantastic. If he gets it wrong, perhaps he chooses to trust the front office on the next one. We get great draft position next year if we suck either way.

Tiddyjohn Salon, you are a Spur.

  12. This would be a horrible miss. The last thing we need is another multi year project that is more likely to bust out than be a core piece of the team.

    Primo, Samanic and now Salaun….ouch

  13. I love Wemby, but I really hope that our front office doesn’t just cater to whatever he says especially when it comes to drafting. Of course I want them to consider his input, but not let him dictate how things go. Wemby is biased towards other French players, and using bias isn’t the best way to come to solutions. Salaun is not worth a #8 pick, let alone any lottery pick. If our front office wants to draft Risacher and we have the opportunity to land him, I’m all for that because I think that’s one French player that’s worth a lottery pick in this draft. But the boys in the office gotta let big Vic know that Salaun just isn’t that guy.

Taking a swing on an unknown could be worth it, depending on who’s available at 8.

  15. Bonesawisready5

He is way too raw plz no. Knecht, Williams, and others would be better wing options

I hope not. He has a high ceiling and could be a star but his ceiling is so so low that it’s not worth picking him at 8. He has too many things to work on (inconsistent shot, poor defensive fundamentals, low offensive feel, not a good finisher, etc). There will be someone better available at 8
