He’s No Wemby: What To Expect From Alex Sarr

[Music] by now you’ve probably heard that the NBA’s 2024 draft class is weak to put it mildly experts agree this is the worst draft in at least 11 years and one of the worst ever still even that much malign 2013 class produced a two-time MVP in jannis and tmbo and a four-time defensive player of the year in Rudy Gober the point is there’s always talent to be found and the consensus among Scouts right now is that the top talent in the 2024 class is French big man Alex SAR so what will the Hawks be getting in this relatively unknown seven-footer there’s clearly something in the water in France where SAR and Zachary rash could go one two a year after Victor wanyama was taken first overall by San Antonio of course these guys aren’t weny whose name should never be uttered in the same sentence as anyone in this year’s class that’s why I’m here and you’re there what SAR is though is a seemingly NBA ready Defender whose size and switch ability make him a perfect defensive fit for the modern game the son of a sagales pro baller and the brother of Thunder Center Olivier SAR Alex’s breakthrough came in a dominant 2023 performance against the g-league ignite after spending 2 years with overtime Elite where he was the first European signed to the program SAR joined the nbl’s Perth Wildcats when the Australian Club matched up against the g-league ignite in a pair of exhibition contests SAR established himself as the best prospect on the floor in games that included fellow 2024 class members mates buellis Ron Holland and Tyler Smith Alex with the jam Holland trying to break down his man and SAR blocks that into the seats during those two contests SAR averaged 21 1/2 points 8 and 1/2 rebounds two assists and six blocks flashing the tantalizing defensive potential even 2024 draft haters have to acknowledge he then averaged less than 10 points in 17 minutes per game in the NBL this season demonstrating how far he still has to go on the offensive end as an athletic big man with a nearly 7’5 wingspan sar’s Rim running and ability to serve as a lob threat would PA wonderfully with the lead guard Atlanta now seems destined to trade other than that there’s a lot of work to do SAR can attack off the dribble move the ball and finish inside but he can also display awkward footwork and he’s a poor shooter with limited range in addition he’s not the most consistent rebounder despite being a high energy bck at least to start his NBA career SAR would be best suited beside a floor spacing front Court partner who wouldn’t clog the lane with him then again if the Hawks have the patience for a post TR Trey young rebuild and are content to let SAR spread his wings it might be the rookie himself utilized as a floor spacer results be damned Let It Right add it all up and the most frequent comparisons for SAR seem to be jiren Jackson and Evan moley and that’s not a bad thing we’re talking about a former Defensive Player of the Year in Jackson and a guy who should contend for the award for years to come in Moby ask any team starting from the bottom if they’d like one of those bigs as core members of their rebuilds and they’d all say yes look an offensively limited big man with defensive versatility may not be the sexiest skill set for a number one pick but Sark could be a very good nbaer in time you and the Hawks just need to keep your expectations in check it’s not sar’s fault he stands the benefit from topping a wful draft class even after moving up from the 10th best odds to NAB the number one pick the Hawks may not feel like big Winners right now but SAR has the potential to help them get there he’s just not good enough to lead them there thanks for watching if you like this video and want to see more content like this be sure to hit that subscribe button [Music]

By now, you’ve probably heard that the NBA’s 2024 draft class is … weak, to put it mildly. But even still, there’s always talent to be found, and the consensus among scouts right now is that the top talent in the 2024 class is French big man Alex Sarr. So, what will the Hawks be getting in this relatively unknown seven-footer?

  1. I think this draft class being so weak is largely due to the obvious lack of game changers among the college kids. It has nothing to do with Alex Sarr.

  2. Its not like the hawks were one of the worst teams, we were 36-46 but just barely missed the playoffs in a weak eastern conference and now you get the no 1 pick, he doesnā€™t have to lead us to the top but he can def be a core foundation piece

  3. The perfect player the Kings need to compliment Domas. If the Hawks arent too sold, Kings should make a move

  4. The 2024 draft is equivalent to a normal draft if you remove picks #1, #2, #3, #7, #12, #16.

So the #1 picks is like a #4 pick, 2 is like 5, etc.

To the ppl bringing up 2020, it wasn't considered that weak just that the top 3 (Ant, Wiseman, LaMelo) was worse than you'd expect and after that Patrick Williams, Okoro, Okongwu, Killian, Avdija were all weak for a top 10. Guys like Haliburton, Maxey, and Bane ended up hitting, but that's somewhat rare.

this is more comparable to 2013 or 2000.

  5. As someone who watched Sarr play every game for the Perth Wildcatsā€¦ did you watch games or just highlights of him in nbl?

He was in a tough spot offensively. Anyways heā€™s going to be very good.

  6. Hawks sure could use another big man.Let him back šŸ˜‚up Capela play about 20mpg. He will be a big help. Let's not forget it is the last year of Capela's contract.

  7. Poor shooter with limited range ? pls cite me all the teenagers 7fters who shot 4 3p FGA/36 min at 30pct in a pro league ?

  8. how weak this draft is? just watch ESPN and its full of Bronny like he is the top prospect this year šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

  9. Bro why the fuck everyone got wemby name in their mouth, NO ONE will ever be close to wemby this decade. So STFU w comparisons

  10. 2013 HAD BJ YOUNG
šŸ˜‚THE BEST BASKETBALL šŸ€ PLAYER EVER

    BUT THEY TOOK ANTHONY BENNETTšŸ˜‚

A FAKE ASS LEBRON JAMES šŸ˜‚

  11. The funniest thing to me is that in 2k21 and 22 i would do rebuilds of teams, when this draft came around alex sarr was always projected as a late first in that game, i would always draft him no matter the position i was drafting in. Dude would always be a 90 overall by year 3 and in one rebuild i had him and vic both over 95 overall.
