2024 NBA Playoffs: Pacers Secure BIG WIN at Home, FORCE Game 7 against Knicks | CBS Sports
well the Pacers looking to play another day Andrew NIMH hard Corner three in transition extends the Pacers lead to 20 few minutes later a little bit of Revenge shall we Obi to and get his former team with the dunk puts an exclamation point on the Pacers lead and they go on to win forcing a game seven against the Knicks had their way in this one game seven here we come 116 103 is your final Brunson Jaylen Brunson struggled in the first half of this one shooting just 15% from the field but finished with 31 points a board five assists mab with 20 points two boards in this one but Pascal SE yakum leading the way for Indiana putting up 257 and five miles Turner with 178 and three Indiana refus to go down without a fight moving this one into game seven heading back to the guard with the chance at the Eastern Conference Finals on the line we are joined by CBS Sports NBA analysts and two of the hosts of the Beyond The Arc podcast Bill Ryder and John Gonzalez fellas the Pacers refus to go down without a fight putting up a valiant effort in their win now 6 and0 at home we know the storyline about this series whenever the home team is on the floor they refuse to go down but John I want to come to you first first what did we learn about this Pacers team yet again at home getting the job done and forcing this game seven yeah I think that it just reinforc what we knew about them that they are excellent at home for whatever reason they’ve struggled when they’ve been on the road in this postseason but at home in Indiana they look like a completely different team and this was a total turnaround Kiana where uh in the last game in MSG they got bodied on the boards tonight they owned the glass they obliterated the Knicks and points in the paint and yes Jaylen Brunson finished with 31 points but they also really made him work again he had he had to take 26 shots to do that and as you mentioned really rough first half for him and then on top of that se yakum and Turner were just so good tonight halberton was much more aggressive uh you know he didn’t score the ball maybe as much as perhaps some people like me wanted him to do but he was a great facilitator really involved tonight and and a much better Defender bill and I were kind of laughing about it on the Pod tonight after the last game uh we were talking about Rick carile saying well no they don’t need to make any adjustments these guys just need to play harder bill I think they might have been right they just think to play harder yeah I love I I love Rick Carell setting the stage as to very fair question by a reporter between games five and six what is the adjustment as John just said he basically growled I mean his answer was basically a growl of this poor person and as John said it was we weren’t Tough Enough we weren’t good enough we didn’t want enough he he he in effect called out the manhood and the commitment of his team and they responded and and and you’re right Keana it’s it has been a stark difference for this Pacers team not just in this series but in this series certainly the entirity of the playoffs first round two at home versus away it’s Dr Jackal and Mr Pacers and who knows what we’ll see in game seven but they’re a monster when they’re playing at home and as John noted they dominated the boards that wasn’t true in the last game of the garden they were incredible points in the paint they attacked the rim they play with confidence their defense was outstanding even Tyres halber who’s been really timid over the course of the last few games he didn’t set the world on fire but when he took shots he made him he was much more assertive they are it’s and John said it we we it just reinforc what we knew whatever they are away from from the friendly confines in Indie and it’s not great they are absolute beast when they are playing at home and they took it to the Knicks in this game I think that’s why I we all I think I’m going to speak for all of us we are all so excited for what lies ahead in game seven considering how the Pacers play at home how the Knicks play at home but what is what’s going going to be the product when all is on the line but before we get into that I want to dive a little bit more into the Knicks and their performance and Bill I feel like New York came into this one already bruised and battered they were limping into game six and then you get Josh Hart who leaves this game briefly while dealing with that rib injury we already know that there’s going to be no OG an anobi in game seven are there any concerns of the Knicks Health as this playoffs wear on and as we’re looking at this near future I think that’s the biggest concern I mean there’s no guarantee that Pacers are going to continue to play like a bunch of I’m just channeling what I think Rick car I was thinking bunch of bums at the Garden but even if they do I mean you have to be able to field a complete basketball team if you’re the Knicks and there’s a little hope of some reports out there that maybe maybe maybe OG could come back and play we’ll we’ll see that’s obviously a huge difference maker but you’re right Josh Hart going out not returning with those ribs that’s really disconcerting that’s really worrisome if Josh Hart and we don’t know he’s going to miss the next game but if he does and if OG still doesn’t play that is five pretty important Knicks players who wouldn’t play it’s basically a starting five on a mediocre to not great basketball team that would miss the entirety of the most important game the Knicks have played since since the early 90s so you’re right there’s so many things that are gonna that are going to come to to to bear on on who wins this game there are so many factors game sevens are so unpredictable but the Knicks looking like a hospital Ward looking like a group of banged up players who just can’t get out there that will be the story if if the Knicks can’t field enough players to be competitive against a Pacers team if it’s an if that Pacers team John Kiana can figure out a way to bring just some of their excellence and they’ve been excellent to get here actually away from their home arena in in uh in Indianapolis yeah this is a huge huge problem bill is right this is the predominant storyline going into game seven the first game seven in Madison Square Garden since 1995 everybody should be really excited right but if you’re Nicks where Nick’s fans all of a sudden you’re like oh man who’s going to be available if OG can’t go and and if Josh Hart can’t go or is limited you’re already putting dece McBride into the starting lineup now I guess you’re going PR precious aoua in the starting lineup as well previously they had to dust off Alec Burks because of all the other injuries Alex B Alec Burks hadn’t played and then all of a sudden he’s playing again and he’s acquitted himself really well credit to Alec Burks but then now you’re still only at six guys who’s next up I mean are you going to dust off Shake Milton I guess he’s probably blew your next next guy up this is an absolute disaster and I’m not this is not on tibs with Josh Hart because it’s not like tibs ran out there and Elbo Josh Hart in the chest and you know uh gave him problems with his ribs and he can’t breathe and all that stuff but it is a problem when you talk about how many minutes all of them have play collectively to get to this point where now on top of Josh Hart you know previously Mitchell Robinson was out o yovi and we know how many minutes he played before he had his hamstring injury and on and on and on and on these guys just cannot get rested they cannot get healthy and it is a significant issue yes the Pacers have been not as good away from home but at least they’re fully healthy and the Knicks are anything but so now we head to game seven back at the Garden do you know the last time these two teams met at the Garden in the postseason game seven well that was back in 1995 5 Seconds To Go Patrick Ying with the finger roll doesn’t go fellas oh a heart breaker for the Knicks meanwhile the Pacers move on I want I have a two-parter for this one and and John I’m going to roll back to you what are your maybe memories of this moment and also how much do you think that this game seven here as we sit in 2024 do we think looking at these teams and the momentum they’ve played with and what’s on the line do we think it could be one of these kind of Thrillers that we saw back in ’95 I like that you came to me and asked me about my memories it feels like it’s a little bit of agism because I’m old but I’ll take it I remember that very finally it was during my childhood and I like those those games in the garden For You know despite the fact that I’ve been reared in Philadelphia and my brain has been corrupted it is the world’s preeminent Arena it’s certainly basketball’s Mecca and it just feels more momentous when you’re playing a game seven in the garden it’s been a minute since this has happened these are two teams that have had a traditional rivalry that have been reignited uh it’s going to be absolutely Electric in the arena on Sunday and also how fun is Sunday going to be just in general two game sevens this is exactly what you live for if you’re a basketball fan I am very excited about it I’m sure Pacers fans and Nick’s fans are very excited I’m sure they’re also extremely nervous we work with one of those our other host on the Beyond The Arc podcast Ashley Nicole Moss I I know she’s out there watching right now Ash rest up it’s going to be a hell of a Sunday and I can’t wait for it I love that John was paying attention I was a junior in high school and I was only concerned about the prom and I was marveling that I actually got a date I didn’t care about the Pacers or the Knicks I felt like the big winner in that moment but I I’m with John it is th and I think it’s worth look let’s give some credit to the NBA and Adam Silver this is the the consequence what John’s talking about these riveting series the fact we have two game sevens on Sunday and we’re not even in the Conference Finals the fact that it feels like certainly in the Western Conference but let’s give the Pacers and Nick’s credit too that we have multiple teams that can win an NBA championship this is the byproduct of a plan the NBA put into play seven eight years ago as they renegotiated the deal with the players union to try to create for lack of a better word I think it’s the right term parody we have the distance between these teams is is not that is not that great it’s been a riveting postseason and we are in as John said for such a treat on Sunday and it just reflects what has been a really fun circus show of a postseason that we’re only we’re not even halfway through yet so I I can’t wait for Sunday and hopefully this is a sign of things to come for whoever advances and all the teams in advance and the good times and the close games and the long series continue as this postseason rolls on yeah I’m so excited for game seven and by the way John I have to go back to that it’s not agism because my brother I’m not going to also date myself but my brother made me watch vhs’s of every game in the postseason in the playoffs so it’s not just you it’s me too so I’m up there right along with you but fellas it’s going to be an exciting one game seven Sunday 3:30 p.m. Eastern someone’s going home someone’s making their way with a meeting with the Boston Celtics fellas gear up for it we got a busy weekend ahead and if you want more from these two well they’ll certainly be talking about it each and every day on the Beyond The Ark podcast they’re joined by Ashley Nicole Moss discussing every Hot Topic biggest storylines the postseason who’s in who’s out Health Tom Tibido perhaps keeping Jaylen Brunson on the field on the court for 4 minutes and it’s a blowout I’m just saying they discuss it all make sure you download the podcast Somethings wrong with Haliburton, probably the back
False! The Pacers are not full healthy. Nobody mention that the Pacers is missing one of their starters and dynamic scorer in Benedict Mathurin!!
The Pacers were excellent in the first two games in NY. Thanks to the refs this series is not over. No pressure on Indy.
