Look for Cleveland's Jarrett Allen to become one of the most coveted trade targets in the league this offseason if the Cavaliers A) succeed in signing Donovan Mitchell to a contract extension and then B) prioritize signing Evan Mobley to a potentially maximum contract extension this summer as increasingly expected.
Allen continues to have numerous admirers in rival front offices despite the whispers of frustration circulating in Cleveland surrounding Allen's apparent reluctance to take a pain-killing injection to address a rib injury that sidelined him for the Cavaliers' final eight playoff games.
On the latest #thisleague UNCUT podcast (link below), my co-host Chris Haynes of Turner Sports illuminated Allen's very understandable reluctance for doing so, reporting that Allen did not want to submit to such an injection because of what happened in the NFL to quarterback Tyrod Taylor. In September 2020, then playing for the Chargers, Taylor sustained a punctured lung when a pain-killing shot was administered to treat a rib injury.

Can’t blame him. There’s always another season, but your long term health is permanent. He’s a hell of a player regardless.
Vucevic? Stretch 5 when Mobleys on the floor. Center when he’s not. 3 point range, basically the offense Mobley didn’t develop, opposite of JA. Is there a world where Bklyn would trade Bridges for JA?

Whatever happens with JA. He’s been one of my favorite Cavs over the past 15 years.
Byron Jones also had his career derailed by injury and advised young players not to take pills or injections prescribed by team doctors. There are certainly two sides to every story but I would be less than shocked that teams are eager to use up the bodies while they can, long term complications be damned. Especially in the NFL.
Allen probably would have been fine if he’d taken the injection but he’ll be up for a new deal in a couple years so he’s gotta look out for himself long term.
OKC sending picks to a 3rd party for us to get an established guy like Mikal or Paul George (or LeBron) makes a ton of sense

With Mobleys growth into an Elite #5, and his Max contract approaching, it doesn’t make sense to have both him and JA. Makes little sense from both a cap space and roster construction perspective. They need better spacing to let DG/Spida do their thing.
