[Stein/Windhorst] The Cavaliers are “very optimistic” behind the scenes that they will secure Donovan Mitchell’s contract extension this summer. There is pessimism in league circles about Bickerstaff retaining his job.

My longtime former teammate Brian Windhorst said this week on ESPN's Hoop Collective podcast that the Cavaliers are "very optimistic" behind the scenes that they will secure Mitchell's contract extension this summer.

They can only hope such optimism proves justified. For all the rising chatter about coach J.B. Bickerstaff's dwindling job security and the growing belief that either Allen and Darius Garland (or both) could be dealt before next season, there is unmistakable pressure on the Cavaliers' front office first and foremost until Mitchell commits, all thanks to what they gave up to get him.

As for Bickerstaff, there is an unmistakably pessimistic tone in coaching circles about retaining his job. Despite leading Cleveland to its first triumph in a playoff series without LeBron James in uniform since 1993, Bickerstaff now faces similar difficulties that ultimately helped doom Frank Vogel in Phoenix.

Extending Mitchell and firing the nepo baby is a W offseason.

I really don’t think Bickerstaff “led” us to our first playoff triumph since LeBron. That would be Donovan Mitchell. Bickerstaff looked lost on the sidelines 90% of the time. Lol.

  3. I just picture JB with his nightcap and stuffed animal yelling at the refs in his sleep. Like how the dad from Friday would talk in his sleep about ordering food.

I think jb was a good coach for the rebuild. When the team got more serious and Mitchell came to town, that was the beginning of the end

If he wants to go the Knicks, this should be game plan B.

    Mitchell, Garland, Allen

    for

    Brunson, OG, Hart, Hartenstein

I’m assuming league circles are pessimistic because they wanted the Cavs to retain JB
